Description

The company makes public safety products, using a mix of devices and cloud software, and the Platform Services group builds the cloud platforms and tools those products and their engineers rely on.

In this role you own the core infrastructure platform that every cloud service depends on to deploy, provision and maintain cloud resources, covering the infrastructure-as-code platform, compute, networking and observability.

You lead several globally distributed engineering teams at a stage of real growth, setting their direction, guiding how the platform is engineered and run, and shaping the group as priorities shift.

You answer for the organization's results across delivery, reliability, security and customer outcomes.

You work with peer engineering leaders, Product and Security to weigh near-term commitments against long-term investment, without trading away the trust customers place in the company.

You also set how the organization builds software as AI tools change engineering.

You do not need to match every item below to apply. If your experience is close but not exact, the company encourages you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Work from the Seattle office on a hybrid schedule, onsite Tuesday through Friday, with remote work allowed on Mondays unless an approved workplace accommodation applies.
  • Report to the Vice President, Platform Services.

  • Set the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the core infrastructure platform, and make the key technical calls.
  • Build systems that are reliable, secure and scalable, held to a high quality bar.
  • Make the platform a good experience for the engineers who build on it.
  • Work with peer engineering leaders, Product Management and Security so long-term strategy matches near-term roadmaps and customer commitments.
  • Lead the shift in how engineering works, helping engineers grow into AI-native technical leaders.
  • Lead, grow and hire a team of engineering managers and technical leads, and raise the engineering hiring bar across the company.
  • Build a culture based on candor, accountability, continuous learning and strong team engagement.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or an equivalent highly technical field.
  • 15+ years leading engineering teams, including experience leading managers of managers.
  • Hands-on experience building up software development organizations that create large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience running cloud services at scale on a major provider such as AWS or Azure.
  • Deep knowledge of modern infrastructure-as-code tools and core components such as compute, networking, observability and developer platforms, plus a record of leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of shipping high-quality software to production quickly.
  • Hands-on experience using AI in engineering work, with the ability to judge whether it helps, control its cost and drive adoption at scale.
  • A proven record of delivering results while handling ambiguity, organizational change and competing priorities.
  • Experience working with varied stakeholders, including business leaders, customers and security teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, backed by strong technical and business vision.
  • Experience leading teams spread across regions and time zones, building a cohesive culture and strong execution across locations.
