Description

The company is a Fortune 100 business with almost $70 billion in yearly sales, and its Technology team wants people who can use new tools to get real business results. Customers come first, so caring for them well matters here.

In this role you lead the build, release, and steady improvement of complex AI systems that tackle top business priorities and deliver measurable value across the enterprise.

You will work alongside business teams, product partners, and AI platform engineers to set technical direction on model integration, agent building, cloud and software architecture, evaluation, observability, security and privacy, governance, reliability, and cost control. You will also use and add to shared enterprise tools such as model access, LLM-as-a-Service, AgentCore, MCP services, guardrails, and enablement tools.

The team keeps solution-specific engineering separate from shared platform work, maintains clear boundaries with AI Platform Engineering, and returns reusable pieces to the shared platform where that makes sense. You extend shared AI Platform capabilities and are accountable for the production readiness, reliability, supportability, lifecycle health, and results of the AI solutions in your scope.

The person we need has deep AI and software engineering skill, sound technical judgment, and a sense of ownership over how systems run. They can guide engineers, influence cross-team decisions, work through unclear problems, and balance speed with responsible AI, maintainability, reuse, and business outcomes.

As a Software Engineer, you mentor and lead others in delivering high-quality, cost-effective technology for business partners, whether you are building new applications or changing and supporting packaged or custom-built ones. The team works in an agile setting with a collaborative culture and a focus on secure solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Study large, complicated solutions, then build, test, debug, document, and deploy software that follows standards and good practice.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering across the whole delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology from threats and weaknesses.
  • Act as a top technical expert, mentoring and training others on design methods, tools, and coding standards.
  • Advise on how technology can meet technology and business goals, and carry that work through.
  • Lead collaboration across teams and product areas to deliver projects and shape shared technical roadmaps.
  • Set technical direction for DevSecOps practices, tools, and methods across teams, aiming for stronger security, more automation, higher reliability, and faster delivery at scale.
  • Keep learning and improving through training, hands-on practice, and new ideas.
  • Lead technical decisions by guiding solution design, setting engineering standards, and keeping teams aligned on direction.
  • Handle several complex priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, staying ahead of them.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.
  • You report to a Technology Director or someone more senior.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field. Technology experience or non-traditional tech certificates may replace the degree.
  • 8+ years of programming, software engineering, or analysis work.
  • Hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Working proficiency in several programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • A track record of solving complicated business and development problems.
  • Comfort working as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Leadership skills, competencies, and experience may outweigh the criteria above.
  • Exceptions to these requirements must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and an HR Business Partner.
  • You consistently demonstrate the company's values.

Conditions

This is an exempt role and is not eligible for overtime.

The role is hybrid, with in-office presence two days per week at one of the company's office locations. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Columbus, OH, Des Moines, IA, or Scottsdale, AZ. Current internal associates working remotely may also be considered.

Employer-sponsored work authorization is not available for this role, and the company does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

On-call duty may apply after normal hours and/or on weekends.

The company is an equal opportunity employer that prohibits discrimination and harassment and offers equal employment opportunity regardless of protected characteristics.

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Paid time off: new hires receive at least 18 days each full calendar year, pro-rated quarterly from the hire date.

  • 401(k) with company match and a company-paid pension plan.
  • Business casual attire, plus other benefits.

Starting pay within the range depends on skills, education, training, credentials, experience, the scope, complexity, and location of the role, local labor market costs, and other employment conditions.
