Description

The company's Design Studio sets the standards for the physical footprint of its facilities worldwide, sitting between architecture, engineering and procurement to turn spatial concepts into material standards for building.

This Specifications Writer role acts as the technical authority on how the EV client's physical infrastructure is built, maintained and scaled across the globe.

You will work with the Design, Governance, BIM and Engineering teams to test material performance, fill gaps in standards, and produce specifications that are buildable, legally sound and consistent with each other.

The company is a global professional services firm with over 22,000 people in more than 60 countries, working across real estate, infrastructure, energy and natural resources, and is majority-owned by CBRE Group, Inc.

Responsibilities

  • Write, review and keep improving technical specification sections across Divisions 01 through 48 so they match current design standards and R&D needs.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and civil engineers so engineering specs fit with architectural materials and spatial requirements.
  • Review active design standards on your own initiative, spot missing specification sections, and research and write new ones from scratch.
  • Research and vet proposed products, finishes and equipment for durability, cost, sustainability targets and compliance with building codes such as IBC, NFPA, ADA, ASTM, ANSI and UL.
  • Build standard checklists and review tools that project managers can use to check external Architect of Record (AOR) CD submittals for brand and technical compliance.
  • Own and maintain the studio's MasterSpec/SpecLink cloud database, keeping templates current and easy for production teams to reach.
  • Work with construction and operations teams to feed field lessons learned back into master specifications so the same failures do not recur.
  • You may also take on SOX control duties, where they apply.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8+ years of experience writing technical specifications, producing architectural production work, or delivering A/E contract documents, or equivalent technical expertise.
  • A proven ability to draft and edit both architectural and engineering (MEP and structural) specifications so they work together as one set.
  • A solid grasp of CSI MasterFormat, UniFormat and SectionFormat as they apply to corporate facility rollouts.
  • Working proficiency in specification software such as BSD SpecLink or MasterSpec.
  • Experience reviewing material data sheets and testing standards (ASTM, ANSI, UL) and applying building codes (IBC, NFPA, ADA).
  • Clear, concise writing that turns complex engineering ideas into standards that can be enforced.
  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent technical training or experience.
  • Preferred: CSI credentials such as Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) or Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA).
  • Preferred: active membership in SCIP (Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice) or a similar organization.
  • Preferred: experience writing specifications for large rollout programmes, industrial spaces, R&D labs, EV charging infrastructure or technical prototyping facilities.
  • Preferred: familiarity with linking Revit model metadata (shared parameters, keynotes) to specification databases for automated BIM-to-Spec workflows.
  • Preferred: familiarity with sustainable building certifications such as LEED and WELL, and green material specifications.

Conditions

The base salary range is $120,000 to $140,000. Final pay depends on experience, skills, qualifications and internal equity.

Bonuses may be available in addition to base salary.

On-site requirements may change depending on the client's needs.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all parts of the community.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive benefits package.
  • A flexible working environment that supports work-life balance.
