Software Test Engineer III

Description

The company makes point of sale solutions for retail stores and has a large installed base, including self-checkout systems at well-known grocery and apparel retailers. It is a global business of about a billion dollars, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The Software Test Engineer III leads test guidance for the team and turns customer requirements and technical designs into test scenarios that verify the solution. The role drives quality for the company's point of sale products in the retail market and joins a growing engineering team focused on strong team culture.

The role is based in or near the Cincinnati, OH area.

Responsibilities

• Work with test management to put quality improvement processes in place and keep them running, making sure test coverage is adequate. Find gaps in testing across the solution and recommend how to close them.
• Track industry developments in process, practice, and technology, and apply them to improve the solutions and the tools used for testing.
• Estimate test effort, covering system setup and configuration, test case creation, execution time, and resources.
• Set up test environments, including hardware and software installs. Maintain the test equipment inventory and work with management to request more equipment when needed.
• Take part in agile ceremonies. Work with product and development teams to clarify user requirements and decide on test coverage. Review design documents, functional specs, user scenarios, and existing coverage.
• Design, build, and run test cases, procedures, and results. Log defects and follow them through to resolution.
• Keep project leads and managers informed about test status and risks, and give input on risks and quality decisions, including mitigation plans.
• Write documents for test work, such as test processes and plans, custom installation steps, process improvements, and traceability matrices.
• Guide and mentor junior team members on technical matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Solid grasp of software test methods and quality strategy.
• 5+ years of experience in software test engineering.
• Experience with test coverage analysis, test execution, and defect management.
• Experience working in agile SDLC and using agile project management tools.
• Hands-on test automation experience with tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, Jenkins, Postman, and TestNG.
• Basic programming skills in Java.
• Basic knowledge of Linux commands and the filesystem.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, including reading, writing, and speaking it proficiently.
• Preferred: experience in the retail industry.
• Preferred: experience setting up physical and virtual test environments, including local containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes, and full customer-like integrated solutions.
