Sonos is a sound experience company making it easier than ever for millions of listeners around the world to play more, hear more, and feel more. We’re seeking talented students to join Sonos’s Internship Program and explore what it means to blend creativity, technology, and sound. Our interns are an essential part of our team, bringing fresh ideas, learning from experts, and helping us push the boundaries of what’s possible. Come broaden your skills, share your input and pursue your passion with a 11 week internship experience.

Work Period: June 7- August 20, 2027

Location & Schedule: This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with minimum 4 days per week onsite in our Boston office . There is no relocation or housing assistance for this position.

As a Software Engineering Intern on the Partner Engineering team, you’ll work on real software that ships to Sonos customers. Our team works closely with our Music Service Partners (MSPs) to support over 120 integrations on Sonos, across both the software that runs on Sonos players and the Sonos app on Android and iOS. You’ll be paired with a mentor, take on a meaningful, well-scoped project, and learn how a professional engineering team designs, builds, tests, and ships software. If you love music, enjoy learning, and want to solve challenging problems, we’d love to talk.

Depending on your interests and experience, you’ll work in one of two areas:

Player: embedded software in C/C++ running on Sonos speakers, covering areas like music playback, device-to-device interaction, and partner SDK integrations.

Mobile: the Sonos app on Android (Kotlin) or iOS (Swift), building and improving how customers find, connect, and play content from our partners.

Responsibilities

  • Own a scoped intern project from design through implementation, with guidance from your mentor and the team.
  • Implement features and bug fixes in our player firmware (C/C++) or mobile app (Kotlin/Swift).
  • Learn to debug real-world issues using logs, traces, and reproduction steps.
  • Participate in code reviews, team ceremonies, and our day-to-day development and quality practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers, QA, and product management to deliver reliable, high-quality work.
  • Help maintain and improve integrations with our music service partners.
  • Present your work to the team and stakeholders at the end of your internship.

Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation date between Spring 2027 and Spring 2029.
  • Coursework or project experience in at least one of the following:
  • Player: C or C++, ideally with some exposure to embedded systems, operating systems, or low-level programming.
  • Mobile: Kotlin/Android or Swift/iOS development.
  • Solid understanding of programming fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design).
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git).
  • Curiosity and strong learning aptitude: ability to ramp on unfamiliar systems and ask great questions.
  • Willingness to engage with our AI tools to help with your day-to-day workflow.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Personal, academic, hackathon, or internship projects you can talk about in depth.
  • Player: familiarity with embedded concepts such as memory constraints, concurrency, or real-time behavior.
  • Mobile: an app you’ve built or contributed to (App Store, Google Play, or GitHub).
  • Comfort reading and working with APIs, SDKs, or networking basics.
  • Interest in audio, music, and consumer devices.
  • PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a College or University, with expected graduation date of Winter 2027/2028 or Spring 2028/2029.
  • Available to participate in our internship program from June to August
  • Ability to work out of our Boston office a minimum 4 days per week
  • Authorized to work for any US employer, both now and in the future. Sonos is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this role at this time.
