Description

At Sanity.io , we’re building the future of AI-powered Content Operations. Our AI Content Operating System gives teams the freedom to model, create, and automate content the way their business works, accelerating digital development and supercharging content operations efficiency. Companies like SKIMS , Figma , Riot Games , Anthropic , COMPLEX , Nordstrom , and Morningbrew are using Sanity to power and automate their content operations.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead Billing & Integrations, the team behind usage metering, plans and subscriptions, spend controls, invoices, and selected partner integrations. Your team makes it possible for us to launch billable capabilities and to run routine billing through reliable APIs and tools. You’ll also keep our integrations dependable and current.

Leading a team at Sanity means owning strategy, roadmap, and execution alongside your product partner. This is a player-coach role: most of your time will go to people, priorities, and delivery, while you stay close enough to the code to review designs, unblock difficult problems, and guide technical decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of a reliable monetization platform
  • Own the engineering roadmap with Product, balancing new billing capabilities, customer-facing improvements, reliability, and reducing manual work.
  • Guide the usage-to-invoice architecture: metering correctness, subscription lifecycle, reconciliation, and dependable budget and limit enforcement.
  • Turn recurring plan, coupon, credit, and invoicing requests into documented APIs and self-service tools that other teams can operate independently.
  • Coach and develop the engineering team
  • Develop engineers through clear feedback, meaningful ownership, career support, and hiring as the team’s needs evolve.
  • Stay technically engaged through architecture reviews, pairing, and code where it helps the team most; strengthen testing, observability, incident response, and safe migration practices.
  • Partner across Sanity
  • Work with Product, Growth, Finance, RevOps, Support, and engineering teams to make pricing and billing requirements clear, surface trade-offs early, and protect customer trust.
  • Keep existing partner integrations reliable and aligned with upstream API changes. Measure impact through billing accuracy, self-service adoption, commercial lead time, and operational health.

Requirements

  • Based in Oslo, Norway, or London, UK.
  • You communicate technical designs and trade-offs clearly, in writing and in conversation, with both engineers and non-technical partners.
  • You have proven experience managing engineers and delivering software at a product or SaaS company, backed by a substantial hands-on engineering background.
  • You’ve led backend or platform systems where correctness and reliability matter. Experience in billing, payments, usage metering, subscriptions, or entitlements is especially useful.
  • You turn ambiguity into clear priorities, deliver incrementally, and can show how your team’s work improved customer or business outcomes.
  • You care about growing people and building a team with shared ownership. You work effectively across functions and timezones, and replace recurring manual work with reusable capabilities.
  • You can reason deeply about event-driven systems, API contracts, idempotency, retries, consistency, reconciliation, and safe changes to critical state. Familiarity with Orb, Stripe, or Temporal is a plus; transferable engineering judgment matters more than a particular vendor.
  • Not sure you’re exactly what we’re looking for in this role? Apply anyway!
  • What we can offer:
  • A highly-skilled, inspiring, and supportive team
  • Positive, flexible, and trust-based work environment that encourages long-term professional and personal growth
  • A global, multi-culturally diverse group of colleagues and customers
  • Comprehensive health plans and perks
  • A healthy work-life balance that accommodates individual and family needs
  • Competitive salary and stock options program
  • Who we are:
  • Sanity.io is a modern, flexible content operating system that replaces rigid legacy content management systems.
