Software Engineer

Description

The company is hiring a Software Engineer with an active TS/SCI clearance plus polygraph for one of its major projects in Annapolis, MD. The role is tied to a specific customer.

You will develop, maintain and improve complex software systems, such as processing-heavy analytics, new algorithms, very large data sets, real-time systems and business management information systems, working from documented requirements. You may work alone or on a team.

Responsibilities

• Review and test software components against design requirements, and record the results.
• Resolve software problem reports.
• Apply software development and design methods that fit the environment.
• Give input on system design, including hardware and software trade-offs, software reuse, and choosing COTS or GOTS products over new development.
• Turn system-level requirements into requirements for individual software components.
• Analyze user needs to define software design and performance requirements.
• Debug existing software and fix defects.
• Write or review software and system documentation, and recommend improvements to documentation and development standards.
• Design, code and modify software to add features or integrate it into new or changed systems.
• Write simple data queries, and design or implement complex database and repository interfaces and queries.
• Build algorithms that meet or beat system performance and functional standards, including those with strict timing, resource or interface limits.
• Help write and run test procedures for software components.
• Study system performance standards, data flows and work processes, and confer with users and system engineers to find and investigate problem areas.
• Modify software to fix errors, support new hardware or improve performance.
• Use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure the outcome of design choices.
• Confer with system and hardware engineers on software requirements, project limits, capabilities, performance needs and interfaces.
• Coordinate software installation and monitor equipment to confirm operational specifications are met.
• Recommend new technologies and processes for complex projects.
• Choose the development process together with the customer and system engineering.
• Ensure quality control of all software you build or change, including quality checks on team output.
• Lead one or more development teams, or act as technical lead across several teams, assigning programming and testing work and tracking performance.
• Keep the work within the constraints of the chosen development process.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Twelve years of experience as a software engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited college or university. Four years of additional software engineering experience on projects with similar processes can replace the degree.
• Strong hands-on skills in Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, Kafka, JMS, Kubernetes, Docker and CI/CD.

Conditions

Pay is $170,000 to $200,000 USD for the Maryland range.

Pay depends on factors such as location, federal contract labor category, wage rates, experience, skills, education and certifications.
