Description

Your team is the AV Runtime group in the Autonomous Vehicle Platform Core organization at the company. It builds software and data systems that turn real driving into training and evaluation data for self-driving work.

The systems gather sensor, vehicle, and scenario data for teams working on perception, prediction, planning, and other autonomous driving functions. The focus is on capturing the right data from the fleet, protecting privacy, keeping data quality high, and moving vehicle data reliably into the AI development pipeline.

The role centers on projects that make fleet-scale vehicle data recording and delivery more reliable, observable, and easier to operate. You will write Python across cloud, backend, and data platforms so that valuable vehicle and sensor data is captured, transferred, processed, and usable for autonomous vehicle development.

You will work across Python services, telemetry pipelines, cloud infrastructure, backend services, data storage, monitoring, metrics, and reliability workflows. You will partner with cloud platform, backend, systems engineering, fleet operations, data engineering, and downstream consumers to deliver fleet data capabilities that are reliable, diagnosable, and scalable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project-level work that makes vehicle-to-cloud data recording and telemetry more reliable.
  • Write Python for telemetry processing, data validation, metrics, reliability automation, and operations tooling.
  • Build components that capture, filter, validate, package, store, and deliver vehicle and sensor data.
  • Define data quality checks, metric meanings, dashboards, service-level indicators, and measures of operational health.
  • Troubleshoot hard problems across data pipelines, cloud ingestion, storage, distributed processing, monitoring, and backend integrations.
  • Use AI and large language models to speed up issue discovery, failure classification, root-cause analysis, knowledge lookup, and workflow automation.
  • Work with cloud, backend, data engineering, fleet operations, and downstream teams to agree on interfaces, metrics, ownership, and operating expectations.
  • Improve performance, scalability, observability, privacy, availability, and cloud cost across data workflows.
  • Ship reliable software through clear requirements, design and code reviews, automated testing, CI, staged rollouts, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Mentor engineers and build reusable patterns, documentation, tooling, and ongoing engineering improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience shipping production-quality Python software, data workflows, or reliability projects with limited guidance.
  • Experience with embedded software, robotics, automotive, or a similar technology stack.
  • Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, distributed systems, networking, and software design.
  • Strong Python skills, with code that is maintainable, testable, observable, and efficient.
  • Experience with telemetry processing, data pipelines, cloud services, backend integrations, monitoring, or reliability automation.
  • Ability to debug complex software, cloud, distributed system, and data integration problems and resolve their root causes.
  • Experience owning technical requirements, plans, milestones, risks, and delivery for a project, feature area, or workstream.
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly and work well with engineers across teams and organizations.
  • Preferred: Experience building Python services, cloud applications, data processing workflows, or reliability automation.
  • Preferred: Experience designing or running distributed cloud architectures on Kubernetes, Google Cloud services, BigQuery, cloud storage, backend services, or distributed data processing systems.
  • Preferred: Exposure to C++ systems programming, IPC, messaging, networking, serialization, or data pipelines.
  • Preferred: Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, container orchestration, cloud storage, backend services, or distributed data processing.
  • Preferred: Experience with telemetry, logging, observability, data quality, metrics, dashboards, or fleet data recording systems.
  • Preferred: Experience with APIs, messaging, networking, serialization, storage, SQL, data contracts, or event-driven workflows.
  • Preferred: Experience applying AI or LLMs, data analysis, incident triage, workflow automation, or engineering productivity.
  • Preferred: Experience with fleet deployment, release monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, service-level indicators, or operational readiness.
  • Preferred: Experience mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, or running cross-team or cross-organization technical initiatives.
  • Preferred: Prior work in autonomous driving, distributed systems, data infrastructure, AI/ML infrastructure, platform software, or production operations.
