Software Engineer - Storage

Description

Storage is a scalable, high performance object store and one of the company's fastest growing services. Uploading, storing, processing and delivering assets today means juggling regions, caching, codecs and security before a developer can even begin. The team wants to solve that properly.

The work spans the whole stack: client libraries, the CLI, the CDN, the storage server and deployment infrastructure. Some days you might work on upload resilience in iOS apps; other days on making S3 protocol retries more efficient or speeding up upload processing.

You will contribute to the open source storage server and to upstream dependencies such as the TUS server. The role suits someone who works well asynchronously in a quick-moving team and wants to build developer tools that serve millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Grow the analytics bucket offering and improve how open file formats such as Iceberg and DuckLake are stored.
• Optimise assets so websites and mobile apps load faster.
• Build out the edge network to speed up uploads and add features such as automatic cache invalidation.
• Improve the performance, observability and reliability of the storage server.
• Work with the frontend team on a fast, capable storage explorer.
• Improve the APIs, client libraries and CLI so users get a excellent end-to-end developer experience.
• Resolve escalated support issues and find and fix systemic problems across the platform.

Requirements

• You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including running Node.js in production.
• You have worked on highly scalable, distributed systems.
• You are comfortable across the stack, from backend application code to deploying, monitoring and scaling the service.
• You are familiar with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana, and with performance tuning.
• You have used PostgreSQL in production, including tuning and troubleshooting.
• You take ownership and drive projects from start to finish.
• You care about the developer experience.
