Description

The company builds software that helps customs brokers and importers automate compliance work, mainly preparing the data needed to file imported shipments with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Customs is a heavily regulated field with many intricate rules and little use of modern technology, which leaves a large market open to the company.

The team is hiring a backend engineer to scale core systems and lead the build-out of AI-powered features across backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, and AI. You will own technical choices, ship ideas to production, and help shape the architecture and engineering direction in a hands-on role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable backend services and APIs with Python and Django
  • Set up and manage AWS infrastructure, including EC2, ECS, Lambda, and RDS
  • Build asynchronous processing and distributed task queues with Celery
  • Develop and integrate AI features using LLMs, LangChain, and RAG pipelines
  • Make key technical decisions and help shape system architecture
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their code

Requirements

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend systems
  • Deep knowledge of Python and Django, including performance tuning and scaling
  • Experience with Celery and asynchronous task processing
  • Solid AWS skills and experience managing infrastructure
  • Track record of designing and shipping production AI features built on LLMs, LangChain, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Hands-on experience deploying, scaling, and monitoring AI or ML models, including LLMs, on modern cloud platforms
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, or Jenkins
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills
  • Experience working on a remote-first, collaborative engineering team
  • Experience with observability tools such as Sentry or Prometheus
  • Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
  • Preferred: experience implementing security compliance for enterprise or U.S. Government projects, though not required
