Description

The company is the company, which brings anime and manga to a large fan base across more than 200 countries and territories, through streaming, theatrical releases, games, merchandise and events.

The Media Delivery team sits within Video Platform Engineering and builds the infrastructure behind the company's global streaming. The team runs global CDN networks, cloud origins, replication pipelines and delivery services built for uptime, security and low latency, and works with Content Pipeline, Content Protection, Playback, Security and cloud partners to get media to every device platform.

The role is a Software Engineer III position. You will design, build and run highly reliable systems that stream video to millions of customers worldwide, sitting where software engineering, cloud infrastructure, networking and delivery meet.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run scalable content replication and multi-origin storage so playback keeps working when something fails.
  • Build multi-CDN delivery that routes global traffic by performance, availability and cost.
  • Design fault-tolerant AWS and GCP architectures that remove single points of failure from the delivery path.
  • Build high-volume networking between cloud origins, CDNs and playback services.
  • Automate provisioning, deployment and recovery with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Set up end-to-end observability, including metrics, tracing, logging, SLOs and alerts, so playback issues get resolved quickly.
  • Find vulnerabilities early through proactive scanning and build infrastructure that is secure by default.
  • Improve reliability with automated health checks, failover and self-healing.
  • Own each service from design through deployment, on-call incident response and ongoing optimization.
  • Troubleshoot complex production delivery problems across software, infrastructure, networks and vendor partners.
  • Work with external CDN and cloud providers to improve performance and clear delivery bottlenecks.
  • Take part in design and code reviews to keep engineering standards high for scale and maintainability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript or another modern language for application services and infrastructure automation.
  • Production experience with AWS. GCP experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on work with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and their best practices.
  • Experience running high-volume CDN architectures, such as Fastly, Akamai, Google Media CDN or Cloudflare.
  • Solid grasp of networking fundamentals: DNS, HTTP, TLS, caching, load balancing and routing.
  • Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency delivery across regions and external networks.
  • Experience with Datadog or similar tools, configuring metrics, logs, traces, SLOs and alerts.
  • Understanding of cloud and application security, built into both design and operations.
  • A proven record of diagnosing and fixing complex production incidents across software and vendors.
  • A strong sense of ownership, and willingness to join on-call rotations and incident response.
  • Clear technical communication and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
