Description

The company is a global technology firm in payments. Its Decision Management program builds decision-based products using streaming analytics, letting teams govern decisions and manage their outcomes with agility.

The platform combines business rules, AI engines, streaming big-data technologies, in-memory data grids, APIs and user interfaces to produce real-time decisions at global scale.

The team is hiring a Software Engineer II for its DMP group in the Vancouver office. You will write code hands-on across design, development, testing and delivery, working alongside experienced engineers and helping junior colleagues grow.

This role suits someone who has built high-performance applications, enjoys owning both the code and the tests for it, likes solving hard technical problems with real customer impact, and wants to help stop fraud across the company transactions worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain application features, mainly in Java.
  • Write unit, integration and functional tests.
  • Apply solid engineering practices so code is well designed, maintainable, scalable, secure and testable.
  • Own assigned features and backlog items from development through testing to release.
  • Investigate technical faults and devise inventive fixes for complex problems.
  • Work with senior engineers and teammates to clear technical obstacles and delivery blockers.
  • Take part in Scrum events: refinement, planning, daily stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Guide junior engineers through mentoring, technical advice and knowledge sharing.
  • Keep stakeholders informed on progress, technical trade-offs, risks and next steps.
  • Consistently help the team meet sprint and iteration commitments and wider team goals.
  • Use approved AI-assisted coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, to speed up development, raise productivity and improve code quality.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills, with solid Java knowledge.
  • Strong working knowledge of Spring and related Java frameworks.
  • Good grasp of object-oriented design, software design principles and development best practices.
  • Experience with unit testing and mocking tools such as JUnit, Mockito or EasyMock.
  • Good SQL skills and experience with Oracle databases.
  • Experience building and supporting high-performance applications.
  • Strong skills in diagnosing faults, troubleshooting and creative problem-solving.
  • Strong organisation skills, with the ability to juggle several priorities against business deadlines.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and delivering against sprint and backlog commitments.
  • Ability to work well with engineers and with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Desirable: knowledge of agentic AI concepts and/or experience building custom AI agents, tools or skills.
  • Desirable: experience with testing frameworks such as REST Assured and Selenium WebDriver.
  • Desirable: experience with IBM ILOG/ODM and Pivotal GemFire.
  • Desirable: experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Desirable: experience with Angular.
  • Desirable: experience with distributed, highly available or real-time processing systems.
  • Preferred: a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
