Description

The company is a digital services provider wholly owned by the company. Its Skywise offering integrates planning and operations control, flight, technical and ground operations into one set of interoperable digital solutions that help airlines run more predictably and efficiently.

The role is for a Senior Software Developer on the development team. The focus is hands-on engineering across the C and.NET stack: writing high-quality code, improving performance, and setting a high bar for engineering practice.

You will join the team building next-generation services for commercial aviation customers, extending functionality for dispatch, performance, scheduling, tracking, documentation and/or weather systems.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in architecture design, weigh complex technical trade-offs, manage technical debt and encourage sound development practices across the C and.NET ecosystem.
  • Find bottlenecks early and lead deep refactoring work to get the best performance out of both legacy.NET Framework (Windows) applications and modern.NET Core applications, including SQL database tuning.
  • Own complex features from design documentation through to successful production deployment, making sure the work supports broader business goals.
  • Run code reviews and operational checks to keep deliverables secure and high quality, and help the team adopt AI-powered tools and AI-assisted engineering practices.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate developers and support their professional growth, helping build a collaborative and engaged engineering culture.
  • Explain complex technical ideas clearly to both engineers and non-technical business stakeholders so projects stay aligned.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software development experience with.NET, C or equivalent technologies.
  • A record of building scalable software, guiding others technically and making sound engineering decisions as part of a team.
  • Hands-on experience with code optimization, system performance tuning, refactoring complex codebases and working with relational (SQL) databases.
  • Experience diagnosing, debugging and fixing software issues in live production environments.
  • Strong technical communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to technical and business audiences.
  • Experience with cloud environments, specifically AWS, is an asset.
  • A college diploma or bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency in English.

Conditions

Permanent position.

Hybrid work with 3 days per week in the office.

Located in the David Johnston Research + Technology Park at the University of Waterloo, about 10 minutes from Highway 85, near shops, restaurants, gyms and daycare.

Flexible hours and a casual dress code.

  • Summer core hours and a Christmas shutdown.
  • Free parking.
  • A competitive group benefits plan, life insurance, and an RRSP matching program.
  • A strong focus on mental health support.
  • Maternity and paternity benefits.
  • Access to the employee share scheme.
  • Fitness and wellness reimbursement.
  • A referral program and a rewards and recognition program.
  • An active social committee, organized volunteer events, an active inclusion and diversity committee, and a game room with a flight simulator.
