Site Reliability Engineer - VMware & Cloud

Description

You will join the IT Core Infrastructure Services team and help roll out VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), which supports the company's multi-cloud plan.

Working with colleagues in IT and other departments, you will design and build the company's private cloud to high standards of operations, IT security and cost control.

Infrastructure as code thinking is central to the role, as you help build the foundation for the company's cloud infrastructure, with a focus on performance, scalability and reliability.

You will lead the adoption of observability using Grafana Cloud and bring SRE practices into the organisation.

The company is a Munich-based health technology firm, founded over 35 years ago, that digitises medical workflows from diagnosis to therapy. Its digital ecosystem is used in 4000 hospitals in 120 countries. The team of around 2000 people works across 25 locations worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the company's private cloud based on VMware Cloud Foundation.
• Guide the company's observability work by applying SRE principles and Grafana Cloud.
• Apply infrastructure as code to build and manage cloud infrastructure.
• Work with colleagues across IT and other departments to meet operational quality, security and cost goals.

Requirements

• A degree in computer science or an equivalent technical education, with at least 5 years of experience.
• Solid understanding of IT principles, including software-defined networking, high-availability architectures, security and zero-trust concepts, and datacentre operations.
• Working knowledge of software development practices and tools, including CI/CD, microservice architectures, version control and Scrum.
• Experience architecting and implementing VMware Cloud Foundation or an equivalent private cloud.
• Strong skills in automation with Ansible, Terraform and Python.
• Expertise in Linux and Unix. Experience with Windows environments is a plus.
• Experience running containerisation platforms such as k8s, VKS or OpenShift.
• Experience with the Grafana and OpenTelemetry ecosystems is a plus.
• Experience with AI and ML concepts and technologies is a plus.
• A strong focus on user experience, service availability, cost efficiency and process improvement.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
• An independent, structured and organised way of working, with project management skills.
• Strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
• Advanced English. German is a plus.

Conditions

Work in a hybrid model within Germany, with flexible working hours.

30 vacation days, plus 24 December and 31 December.
