Description

The company is a global product design and technology firm with a portfolio of highly rated lifestyle products sold in homes worldwide, through major retailers, online and offline, and via distributors. It operates under two well-known consumer brands, has more than 4,100 associates, and is headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts.

The company is building an AI-first culture, so you are expected to test ideas, try new tools, and keep pushing what is possible for consumers.

This co-op runs January through June and is part of the company's early talent program for students and recent graduates. You will work on real projects that build your skills, attend professional development sessions and community events, and finish by presenting your work to company leaders.

You will sit between industrial design and mechanical engineering on the team behind one of the two brands. The work centres on sketching, building, testing, and refining products with the consumer in mind, and you will work with cross-functional teams to turn real-world problems into product ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Create new product concepts with a user-centred focus on ergonomics, appearance, and function.
  • Work with cross-functional colleagues to define solutions that meet functional needs and improve the user experience.
  • Lead or join design studies that address technical and user-experience challenges.
  • Build quick, low-fidelity prototypes and use them to draw conclusions from user testing.
  • Tackle everyday design problems with curiosity and persistence, looking for better ways to do things.

Requirements

  • Be a current student in a related bachelor's or master's program, or have graduated from one within the past year.
  • Communicate ideas, concepts, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical people.
  • Apply a working understanding of mechanical engineering and physics, especially to product design, ergonomics, and human-centred engineering.
  • Be analytical and detail-oriented, and spot potential problems creatively.
  • Show intellectual curiosity, a hands-on approach, and a drive to build elegant solutions that balance engineering and user needs.
  • Manage several projects at once, adjust quickly when priorities shift, and keep the broader design goals in view.
  • Have a genuine interest in user-centred product design, form, and function.
  • Have experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino, plus basic prototyping skills such as 3D printing and shop work.
  • Have hands-on experience building physical prototypes in materials such as plastic and metal, and be comfortable using machine shop equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electronics used in small appliances, such as motors, sensors, and PCBAs, is desirable.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other developer kits is a plus.

Conditions

This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, with at least 5 days per week onsite in Needham, Massachusetts.

The work period runs January through June.

Pay ranges from $30 to $36 per hour, set on a standard scale based on your education level at the time of hire.

The posted hourly range is $27 to $40 USD, and starting pay within it may depend on location or market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.

No relocation or housing assistance is offered for this role.

The company supports diversity, equity, and inclusion and welcomes everyone.

  • Competitive health insurance, including medical coverage and a health savings account with a company contribution.
  • Retirement plans, paid time off, sick time, and company holidays.
  • Employee stock purchase options and referral bonuses.
  • Employee product discounts and opportunities to test products.
  • Wellness programs and learning programs for personal and professional growth.
  • Other benefits, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
