Description

The company is a news organization with a newsroom that reports from nearly 160 countries and publishes across print, audio, and digital platforms.

The Shows team is hiring a Senior Video Editor to bring its shows to mobile, social, and digital audiences through horizontal video podcasts and vertical clips.

This post-production role covers editing full shows and clips. The role calls for a clear understanding of multi-camera editing, close attention to detail, and the ability to handle complex edits independently and on deadline. Deep knowledge of Adobe software is essential.

You will work with producers, editors, journalists, and other internal and external collaborators to lead the editing and publishing of the Shows department's output. The company wants someone who understands social video trends and approaches video formats and techniques with fresh, adaptable ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and color-correct the newsroom podcasts across the full shows portfolio, producing both short vertical cuts and long horizontal versions.
  • Deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines, working on your own without close supervision, ongoing editorial direction, or task management.
  • Edit with digital and social platforms in mind.
  • Edit both full-length videos and clips creatively, coordinating with the audio edit.
  • Help define the style and techniques that give the videos a distinct voice and set them apart.
  • Help improve the post-production and archiving workflow.
  • Take on other related work as assigned.
  • Show support for journalistic independence and for the company's aim of pursuing truth and helping people understand the world.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of multimedia storytelling, video editing, or production experience at a major video outlet or production company.
  • A strong background in digital video editing.
  • A strong portfolio of digital work.
  • Experience making original videos that combine audio, video, still images, graphics, and text.
  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere and CS.
  • Preferred: Stay current with the latest media techniques and technologies.
  • Preferred: Work with colleagues and reporters to shape news into tight, informative, engaging video.
  • Preferred: Experience in video podcasts.
  • Preferred: Experience producing, scripting, or structuring digital news or documentary stories.
  • Preferred: Experience making fast decisions under intense deadlines in a high-pressure newsroom.
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of legal, ethical, copyright, and usage issues for visual material.
  • Preferred: Well versed in social and digital media, watching what competitors do and which new tools are emerging.
  • Preferred: Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
