Description

The company's Rates Technology team is hiring a Senior Application Developer to design, build and roll out new and updated application systems. The work includes detailed systems analysis and programming, with colleagues in technology and business teams across the world. The role sits within the trading application landscape for Rates, and the aim is to bring new ideas and strong engineering to it.

Job family group: Technology. Job family: Applications Development. This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities

  • You will build user interfaces with hands-on coding and take part in system design.
  • You will work directly with the Rates trading desks to understand what they need and where their workflows slow down, then turn that into clear, efficient, user-focused UI designs.
  • You will design scalable web UI architecture, write high-quality code and test thoroughly so the software meets the business specifications.
  • You will help improve the software development lifecycle by refining methods, raising code quality standards and adopting practices that make delivery faster and more reliable.
  • You will take large, complex projects from first concept through to deployment, using your practical development skills.
  • You will act as third-line support for production, handling escalated issues that need deep technical analysis. Dedicated 24/7 first and second-line teams handle initial incident response.
  • You will review proposed technical solutions for new and existing projects to check they are robust, scalable and meet architectural standards.
  • You will learn how the business areas connect and work together, and make sure technology supports those processes.
  • You will spot opportunities for innovation, follow emerging trends and bring suitable new technologies into the software.
  • You will make sure development and operational procedures are followed closely.
  • You will weigh risk in business and technical decisions, with attention to the company's reputation and the protection of its clients and assets.
  • You will follow applicable laws, rules and regulations and company policy, using sound ethical judgment in your work.
  • You will raise and manage control issues early and report them fully.
  • You will take ownership of your work and uphold essential standards.
  • Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional development experience, mostly building complex client-side applications.
  • Deep, hands-on skill in modern client-side development: expert level in Angular or ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML5, ES6+, TypeScript and reactive programming such as RxJS.
  • Proven experience building high-throughput, low-latency systems, including streaming data feeds and RESTful APIs.
  • Extensive practical experience with back-end and middleware technologies, specifically Kafka, Solace and MongoDB.
  • Demonstrable experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Tekton, and with container orchestration platforms such as OpenShift and Kubernetes.
  • A self-starter with prior experience in a fast-paced, desk-facing role in financial services.
  • Exposure to software quality practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and application performance profiling.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and a real drive to learn the mathematics behind financial derivatives.
  • Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to solving problems.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication.
  • High attention to detail, strong self-motivation and a steady willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: prior knowledge of the Rates Derivatives business, which would be a significant advantage.
  • Preferred: a Master's degree.
