Description

The role is a senior technical project manager position that owns delivery from start to finish within a domain-based delivery model. It blends project governance, agile facilitation and servant leadership, and moves work forward iteratively across waterfall, agile and hybrid approaches.

You will move between domains as project demand changes. You will work with product managers, business analysts, architecture, engineering and business colleagues to deliver defined capabilities within feasibility limits.

The company is a leading academic publishing, business intelligence, knowledge and events group. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a FTSE 100 member. The team you join is Taylor and Francis, one of the largest publishers of peer reviewed journals, books, e-books and reference works, operating since 1798.

Responsibilities

  • Set project roadmaps, milestones and success criteria, and track business value against them.
  • Write business cases and funding requests based on clearly defined value.
  • Oversee scope, schedule and budget, spot slippage early and take corrective action.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of products and initiatives, and keep delivery artefacts up to date.
  • Run inceptions for larger initiatives.
  • Manage project budgets and raise risks to cost, time or quality with the right people.
  • Run agile ceremonies: sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives and demos.
  • Coach teams in scrum values and self-organisation, and champion iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Measure and report delivery progress with suitable metrics.
  • Act as the main point of contact between business, technology and product teams.
  • Explain project goals clearly, motivate teams and clear conflicting priorities so delivery stays on track.
  • Manage working relationships with third-party development teams.
  • Identify and manage risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies (RAID).
  • Work with peers on dependencies that cross domains, and support quarterly programme alignment and resource planning.
  • Coach and lead by example, build collaborative teams, and run workshops and problem-solving sessions.
  • Transfer knowledge into the domains once delivery is complete.

Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering software initiatives in fast-moving agile settings.
  • A track record of delivering several projects across the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Solid working knowledge of agile and scrum frameworks and ceremonies.
  • Experience governing projects: scope, schedule, budget, RAID and reporting.
  • Hands-on use of project tracking tools such as Jira, Confluence and Kanban boards.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing across a matrix, coaching others and leading by example.
  • Commercial awareness and a focus on the customer.
  • Analytical, critical thinking and the ability to manage risk in complex environments.
  • Understanding of software development processes and incremental delivery.
  • Desirable: formal accreditation in PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, SAFe or AgilePM.
  • Desirable: experience facilitating large-scale inceptions or discovery phases.
  • Desirable: familiarity with academic publishing or digital content workflows.
  • Desirable: experience with distributed or third-party development teams.
