Description

Date posted: 2026-10-30. Location: United Kingdom.

The company is a UK business within a larger US-headquartered group that makes defence and aerospace technology.

The role is a senior systems engineering position on a programme that buys and delivers training devices, working through the full lifecycle from requirements to acceptance.

The work suits an engineer with defence experience, especially in training systems or training development.

Work varies across the programme. Sometimes you sit in a matrix team to shape procurement strategy, refine training device requirements and move them through procurement. Other times you act as the company's representative, overseeing and coordinating subcontractors who design, build and deliver the training devices.

Success depends on stakeholder management, collaboration across disciplines, and balancing technical oversight against delivery deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Solution Architect to define work packages and technical requirements.
  • Take personal ownership of executing and delivering key work packages.
  • Carry out product specification and qualification tasks.
  • Work with cross-functional colleagues to support procurement and implementation of advanced training devices, alongside specialists in requirements, test and acceptance, system architecture and supportability.
  • Help resolve problems at team level.
  • Help plan and improve how the system operates.
  • Write and maintain documentation covering system configurations, processes and procedures.
  • Champion and build a culture of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Take on any other duties the programme needs.

Requirements

  • Required: a relevant degree or equivalent training.
  • Required: strong experience in systems engineering, ideally across all elements of the V-model.
  • Required: experience with systems engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Required: experience writing scopes of work and acceptance criteria.
  • Required: knowledge of how Systems of Systems are developed.
  • Required: ability to solve problems in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment.
  • Required: hands-on experience with configuration management tools.
  • Required: ability to travel up to 25% of the time, with a valid driving licence.
  • Desirable: experience with the Atlassian suite, including Jira and Confluence.
  • Desirable: experience working in an Agile, SCRUM or DevOps delivery model.
  • Desirable: awareness of NAFv4 and/or TOGAF.
  • Desirable: experience of training devices.

Conditions

Based in Winnersh, Wokingham.

Hybrid working, primarily from home, with travel as needed for internal and customer meetings and duties.

You must either hold BPSS and SC clearance now, or be eligible for and willing to obtain them.

Equal opportunities: applications are welcome regardless of background.

Benefits

  • 37-hour working week with early finish on Fridays.
  • 25 days holiday plus statutory public holidays, rising with service. You can buy, sell or roll over up to 5 days, and take up to 5 paid days for volunteering.
  • Company pension contribution of 5%, with a 6% employee contribution.
  • Discretionary annual company bonus scheme.
  • Life assurance at 6 times salary, with pension.
  • Flexible benefits with a range of salary sacrifice schemes, including Health Cashplan, Dental and Cycle to Work.
