Description

This role combines hands-on engineering with architecture and operational ownership across Linux compute, engineering workspaces, project provisioning, LSF integration, EDA license infrastructure, Perforce infrastructure, monitoring and automation.

You will work with engineering, CAD and IT/IS teams to build scalable, reliable environments that behave the same way worldwide and support semiconductor development.

The company is an embedded semiconductor solutions provider with over 21,000 engineers in more than 30 countries, serving automotive, industrial, infrastructure and IoT markets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering-side technical direction for the global EDA compute platform.
  • Build and sustain Linux-based engineering environments.
  • Coordinate compute, storage, networking and server needs with IT/IS.
  • Support both interactive and batch compute workloads.
  • Help plan compute capacity and shape the technical roadmap.
  • Diagnose difficult problems in compute and engineering environments.
  • Write automation that improves reliability and cuts manual administration.
  • Own the project and workspace architecture and guide how it evolves.
  • Build and run tooling that creates and initialises projects and workspaces.
  • Support the project configuration layer.
  • Keep environment setup consistent across projects and sites worldwide.
  • Build links between project configuration, PDKs, EDA tools and engineering flows.
  • Offer extension points so project teams can tailor environments within a supported standard.
  • Reduce manual effort across project setup and project lifecycle tasks.
  • Lead technical direction for the global EDA license-server estate.
  • Define standard ways to deploy and administer licenses.
  • Build and maintain automation for license updates, validation and auditing.
  • Write robust Python, shell and other automation for CAD infrastructure.
  • Maintain engineering utilities and infrastructure scripts.
  • Automate configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring and administration.
  • Connect CAD infrastructure to Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where it fits.
  • Raise the observability, auditability and maintainability of infrastructure services.
  • Build dashboards and metrics for engineering infrastructure.
  • Track compute and license utilization.
  • Spot capacity, performance and reliability risks.
  • Partner with infrastructure teams on forward capacity planning.
  • Build ways to detect wasteful use of shared engineering resources.
  • Help set the supported Linux OS strategy for EDA environments.
  • Align EDA tool compatibility needs with IT/IS.
  • Support moves between Linux platform generations.
  • Set clear engineering requirements for infrastructure standards.
  • Separate application requirements from infrastructure operational ownership.
  • Maintain architecture and operations documentation for critical CAD infrastructure.
  • Document scripts, configuration, dependencies and recovery procedures.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex infrastructure problems.
  • Train CAD engineers and IT/IS staff so knowledge is not held by a few people.
  • Set up sustainable primary and backup owners for critical services.
  • Design resilience and failover approaches.
  • Work with regional CAD teams and IT/IS to standardise license infrastructure globally.
  • Support license capacity monitoring and planning.
  • Build monitoring and reporting for license availability and utilization.
  • Provide EDA expertise for LSF-based compute environments.
  • Work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning and resource sharing.
  • Create methods to monitor compute utilization and efficiency.
  • Help connect project environments with batch compute.
  • Automate detection of inefficient or problematic workloads.
  • Contribute to compute capacity planning.
  • Give engineering-side expertise for Perforce server infrastructure and operations.
  • Support the Perforce architecture used by semiconductor engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup and operational ownership.
  • Assist with administration and troubleshooting of engineering Perforce environments.
  • Build automation and monitoring for Perforce infrastructure.
  • Keep operational documentation and procedures for Perforce current.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in EDA/CAD infrastructure engineering for semiconductor development.
  • Strong Linux or Unix skills.
  • Strong scripting and automation ability, mainly in Python and shell.
  • Hands-on experience with LSF or similar distributed compute environments.
  • Experience with enterprise version control and data management systems such as Perforce Helix and IPLM.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and workspaces.
  • Understanding of compute, storage and network needs for EDA environments.
  • Experience with EDA licensing and FlexNet-based environments.
  • Sharp troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Track record of building production-grade engineering automation.
  • Ability to work across global engineering, CAD and IT/IS organizations.
  • Clear technical writing and ability to transfer knowledge to others.
  • Highly desirable: Perforce server administration and architecture.
  • Highly desirable: LSF administration or integration experience.
  • Highly desirable: FlexNet license-server architecture.
  • Highly desirable: Grafana or similar infrastructure monitoring tools.
  • Highly desirable: Jenkins or CI automation.
  • Highly desirable: ServiceNow integration.
  • Highly desirable: Cadence or other major semiconductor EDA tool experience.
  • Highly desirable: Linux infrastructure and RHEL migration experience.
  • Highly desirable: experience supporting geographically distributed engineering environments.
