Description

The team is building an algorithmic trading platform for a brokerage, where users expect high quality and performance. The company is an early stage startup with a small team, so the role spans many areas and the work is demanding.

The role involves a lot of hands-on coding and key decisions about the customer experience, with a scope similar to early AWS or Heroku.

Expect the role to combine frontend and backend work, databases, distributed systems, and low-level hardware awareness for high throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Build and architect the algorithmic trading platform, covering frontend and backend work across the stack.
  • Write a large amount of code and make important decisions about how to deliver the best experience to customers.
  • Design concurrent systems that are robust under load, and distributed architecture that stays highly available.
  • Model data using object-oriented principles with long-term growth in mind.
  • Take on many different roles, since the team is small.

Requirements

  • Previous software engineering experience on trading or exchange systems, such as OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, or quant trading.
  • Experience building and implementing Order Management Systems (OMS) and Risk Management Systems (RMS).
  • Coding skill in low and high level languages, such as C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, or Python.
  • Experience optimizing for low latency and high throughput.
  • Experience with message queues and message brokers.
  • Knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, low latency systems, and concurrency control.
  • System design skills, including object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architectures, and system abstraction.
  • An analytical, data-driven mindset.
  • Strong, experienced software engineer with lead experience is preferred.
  • Nice to have: algo trading experience, professional or personal.
  • Nice to have: FIX protocol knowledge.
  • Nice to have: experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and benchmarking.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of financial markets, including exchanges, broker-dealers, and clearing.
  • Nice to have: experience with financial ledgers.
  • Nice to have: statistical and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Nice to have: experience with major cloud platforms, as the team mainly uses GCP.
  • Nice to have: experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
