The company helps businesses get started by taking HR tasks off their hands so they can focus on running the business. It is data-driven and keeps improving its product, and it runs a casual, supportive environment with a shared set of values reflected in both the product and the team.
This is a senior product engineering role for someone who enjoys hard problems where software, APIs, and real developer workflows meet. You will take a partner's target customer experience, understand both sides of an integration, and deliver a practical, supportable solution using the capabilities that exist today.
You will also turn what you learn from partner work into better SDKs, documentation, tooling, and integration patterns, so the same problems do not have to be solved by hand each time.
Responsibilities
Lead technical discovery and solutioning for priority partner integrations on your own, covering partner API research, data mapping, authentication and authorization flows, architecture, implementation support, and launch readiness.
Build and maintain developer ecosystem capabilities such as portal experiences, documentation tooling, SDKs, sample apps, quickstarts, integration templates, and developer-support automation.
Create reference implementations and reusable patterns for common needs like OAuth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, error handling, and observability.
Lead technical working sessions with partners, turn complex requirements into clear decisions and action plans, and explain platform boundaries accurately.
Work with Public API Engineering and Product to find developer friction, test proposed API designs against realistic use cases, and give concise, evidence-based feedback.
Own a multi-surface developer journey or a set of partner integrations from design through delivery, operational readiness, and ongoing iteration.
Reduce repeat support work by using support questions, integration telemetry, and qualitative feedback to decide what becomes documentation, an SDK feature, a product enhancement, or a platform request.
Review designs and code, mentor teammates, and raise engineering quality in both internal systems and partner-facing materials.
Work with Security, Support, and other stakeholders to keep integrations safe, observable, and supportable.
Requirements
At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and running production systems.
Strong experience consuming, integrating with, or building HTTP APIs, with practical knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and OIDC, API authentication, tokens and scopes, webhooks, pagination, rate limits, and error handling.
Experience with backend or full-stack web development in one or more modern languages such as TypeScript, Go, Ruby, or Python.
Experience designing reliable integrations, including retries, idempotency, asynchronous workflows, data contracts, monitoring, and incident and debugging practices.
Clear technical writing, and the ability to explain architecture and tradeoffs to engineers, product partners, and external developers.
A record of delivering customer-facing or developer-facing experiences with a strong focus on usability and documentation.
Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across Engineering, Product, Partnerships and Sales, Support, and Security.
Experience maintaining an SDK, developer portal, API documentation, CLI, sample application, open source library, or integration marketplace.
Experience in regulated, high-trust, or data-sensitive domains.
Experience with OpenAPI, API client generation, event-driven systems, or workflow engines.
Experience working directly with enterprise technical stakeholders.
Good judgment: you balance partner urgency with long-term maintainability, security, and operational quality.
Resourcefulness: you find a clear path through ambiguity, prototype carefully, and cut recurring work with reusable solutions.
Communication: you earn credibility in partner conversations and write durable documents that let others work independently.
Leadership: you lead through technical depth, clear recommendations, mentoring, and collaborative problem solving.
Continuous improvement in modern practices for API integrations, web applications, testing, observability, and developer experience.
You live the company's values of Camaraderie, Openness, Grit, Integrity, and Simplicity in the products you build and the relationships you form.
You do not need every listed technology on day one, but you should learn quickly, pick the right tool for each problem, and write well-tested, well-documented software. The team works with TypeScript and JavaScript, Go, Ruby, AWS, containers, relational data stores, observability tooling, OpenAPI, and OAuth and OIDC.
