You will join a small global group in the company COO/CTO organisation that builds AI products for the whole bank.
The group works at the leading edge of Generative AI, creating services, applications and libraries that let the bank use it safely and efficiently at scale. Much of the work applies Intelligent Document Processing to measurable business results.
The role is part of Technology, within Systems & Engineering.
Responsibilities
Take a senior role in a flat team, owning work, proposing new ideas and working across disciplines to deliver results that matter.
Build robust, production-ready code rather than prototypes, tackling new problems in applied Generative AI.
Work on problems such as extracting data from structured and unstructured documents, classifying and routing content, translating across languages, detecting fraud and document tampering, and streamlining business workflows.
Turn ambiguous, first-of-its-kind problems into dependable services the business can rely on. Because the bank is regulated, make resilience, explainability and auditability as important as model quality.
Move between experimenting with models, prompts and architectures, and hardening the best approach into scalable production code.
Design, build and support high-quality AI software and services that scale across the organisation.
Own technical solutions from problem definition and experimentation through deployment and ongoing improvement.
Develop Generative AI solutions for complex business needs, including document processing, extraction, classification, translation, fraud detection and workflow optimisation.
Test and compare AI models, prompts and architectures, then put the most effective ones into production.
Lead the technical design and architecture of AI products so they are resilient, scalable, explainable and auditable.
Work with Product, Risk, Engineering and other AI platform teams to meet business and regulatory requirements.
Work with senior stakeholders to shape product vision, technical strategy and roadmaps.
Mentor and guide other engineers and help raise engineering standards across the team.
Set strong engineering practice through design reviews, code reviews, automated testing and continuous improvement.
Diagnose faults in complex distributed systems and find ways to improve performance, reliability and scalability.
Help shape the company's AI technology, engineering practices and procedures.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, AI Engineer, Technical Lead or a similar senior engineering role.
A record of building and delivering production systems, not just prototypes.
Strong Python skills and experience building robust, maintainable applications and services.
Practical experience applying Generative AI and Large Language Models to real business problems.
Extensive experience designing and tuning prompts across different Generative AI models, with a disciplined approach to structure, clarity and performance.
Experience building production solutions in areas such as Intelligent Document Processing, document or data extraction, NLP classification, machine translation, fraud or anomaly detection, or workflow automation.
Experience evaluating Generative AI applications, including experiment design, model evaluation and performance measurement. Exposure to MLflow is advantageous.
Strong grasp of software architecture, technical design and functional programming principles.
Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle. Exposure to Kubernetes or OpenShift is advantageous.
Practical experience with CI/CD and modern delivery tools such as Jenkins, uDeploy, Tekton, Harness or equivalents.
Exposure to Agentic AI and the Agent Development Kit (ADK).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including troubleshooting complex distributed systems.
Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated setting where resilience, explainability, security and auditability are critical.
Clear communication and collaboration skills, with confidence speaking to technical and non-technical stakeholders at every level.
A creative, adaptable mindset and the ability to turn ambiguous, first-of-its-kind problems into practical, dependable production solutions.
