Description

The company uses technology to make global trade simpler and more efficient. Its products help businesses of all sizes, from new brands to Fortune 500 firms, move more than $19B of merchandise across 112 countries each year, in a $10T industry.

The Climate team is building emissions insight into the platform where supply chain decisions get made, so customers can weigh cost, speed, and emissions together and act on that.

Supply chain teams are under pressure to reduce both cost and carbon, but logistics and sustainability groups often use different data, tools, and goals. Rules and industry standards also expect companies to measure and manage emissions more closely.

Most climate tools only report results, through a dashboard or a yearly document, long after goods have shipped. This role targets the people who choose routes, shipping dates, and inventory levels.

The company already runs the shipments, holds the data, and provides the platform customers use, which puts it in a good position to link climate insight with operational decisions.

You will be the main engineer for Climate. You will work apart from the existing engineering teams and work closely with the Climate Manager, who is your daily business contact. The setup is like a small startup inside the company, with direct access to the business, wide scope, and real ownership. You will pick the problems that matter most, shape the product, and build it, so the role suits someone who likes both deciding what to build and building it.

Key themes: turning complex shipment and emissions data into clear choices, learning from stakeholders and users, building simple reliable products, finding cases where lower cost and lower emissions align, and taking an unclear problem all the way to a useful product in production.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Climate Programs Manager to learn customer needs, test assumptions, and turn business goals into a practical roadmap.
  • Take ownership of work from problem discovery and technical design through to build, launch, running the product, and improving it.
  • Embed emissions insight into daily supply chain choices such as routing, transport mode, shipment timing, and inventory planning.
  • Help customers find ways to cut emissions using the company's shipment data.
  • Make lower-emission options easier to understand and act on inside existing workflows.
  • Build products that show customers the wider environmental impact of their supply chains, not just freight.
  • Ship useful improvements step by step, balancing speed, scope, maintainability, and data accuracy.
  • Work with other engineering teams when your work relies on shared systems, integrations, or their expertise.
  • Check whether each release solves the underlying problem, and use the results to decide what to do next.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a solid engineering base and experience shipping production software.
  • You can work on your own: you bring structure to vague problems, set priorities, remove your own blockers, and finish work without a detailed spec or constant direction.
  • You judge product well: you understand user needs, know what is worth building, and weigh impact against effort.
  • You work well with business stakeholders, asking clear questions, explaining technical decisions in plain language, and pushing back on ideas when needed.
  • You can own features end to end, across user interfaces, backend services, and data integrations.
  • You prefer simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
  • You are willing to take responsibility for the reliability and upkeep of what you build.
  • You act quickly, and you know when to ask for input or help.
  • You learn fast, including new business areas and technologies.
  • A personal drive to work on climate and environmental problems.
  • Experience in climate technology, emissions accounting, logistics, or supply chain software.
  • Experience building products at a startup or another small team where people own a lot.
  • Experience turning complex data into customer-facing insights and decision tools.
  • Prior climate experience is a plus. Curiosity and the ability to learn the domain matter more.

Conditions

Your daily work will center on a close partnership with the Climate Manager, with engineering collaboration as required.

You will have wide autonomy and need to keep stakeholders informed about priorities, progress, and trade-offs.

The team builds and launches in small increments and uses feedback to decide the next step.

In Amsterdam, you will come into the office two to three times a week to collaborate, whiteboard, and spend time with colleagues.

The wider stack includes React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Kubernetes, GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Kafka, and Snowflake, but candidates from other technology backgrounds are welcome.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • You own products that help customers make better supply chain and environmental decisions.
  • You help shape Climate technology, with the autonomy of a small startup and the reach of the wider company.
  • Equity participation and a defined pension contribution scheme.
  • 25 vacation days for full-time employment.
  • Full payment of premiums for the company's collective health insurance plan.
  • Catered lunch, breakfast, snacks, and drinks at the office.
  • Commuting costs from home to the office covered for employees living outside Amsterdam.
  • Employee assistance and parental leave benefits.
