Description

The role is a senior site reliability engineer position focused on the reliability, scalability and performance of critical platforms and services.

The team is a cross-functional squad placed inside the company's business segments. It turns internal AI experiments into validated, reusable solutions that build the capabilities needed for customer value and growth.

The team starts from the problem rather than the tool and works directly with segment and function teams to improve internal workflows so colleagues can serve customers better and faster.

You will lead complex reliability work, automate operational tasks to cut toil, and help build systems that stay available and deliver a good customer experience.

You will use your knowledge of observability, incident response and distributed systems to spot and fix reliability problems before they escalate, and to improve availability, operations and recovery.

You will write high-quality code, raise risks and blockers early, and work with host-function stakeholders so what you build matches how people actually work. You will also help hand over the solution and build the skills needed to run it after the squad moves on.

Responsibilities

  • Write monitoring queries and set service level baselines.
  • Support senior engineers during incidents.
  • Contribute to post-mortems and root cause analyses.
  • Take part in disaster recovery tests.
  • Build automation and run code in production.
  • Add to the SRE knowledge base.
  • Help deploy, monitor and keep reliable the services that use AI tools.
  • Help architects and senior engineers draw infrastructure topology diagrams and define deployment workflows.
  • Test availability, reliability and recoverability in non-production environments.
  • Benchmark and record test results to support production readiness reviews.
  • Apply hands-on DevOps practices across monitoring, virtual networks, cloud storage, containers and orchestration, CI/CD, configuration management and cloud application security.
  • Write root cause analyses with an executive summary, timeline, detailed impact statement, follow-on actions and residual risks, or present them.
  • Join the on-call rota and support other SRE engineers on call.
  • Write advanced automation scripts for incident response, including failovers and rollbacks.
  • Apply deep knowledge of full-stack observability to make sense of complex incidents and performance problems.
  • Build templated observability dashboards and configuration as code so other teams can adopt them quickly.
  • Help set appropriate SLOs and error budgets.
  • Lead or join a cross-functional team that moves applications onto standard platforms.
  • Advise others on building new Paved Road features and platforms.
  • Analyse the SDLC and CI/CD processes and recommend improvements.
  • Produce practical reports on the operational health and lifecycle of platform and product components.

Requirements

  • Advanced Terraform, including modules, providers, state management, lifecycle controls, drift detection, safe refactoring and remote state with S3, locking and cross-stack dependencies.
  • Hands-on experience running production AWS environments across multiple accounts and regions, using ECS, RDS, ALB, VPC, IAM, Route53, ECR, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Secrets Manager, KMS and CloudWatch.
  • Experience building and fixing GitHub Actions CI/CD, including reusable workflows, OIDC authentication, approval gates, runners, Terraform deployments, application deployments and migration pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of Docker, ECR, ECS task definitions and services, IAM roles, health checks, autoscaling, ALB integration and deployment rollbacks.
  • Proficiency with VPCs, networking, ALBs, Route53, ACM and TLS, IAM, OIDC, Secrets Manager, KMS and cloud security practice.
  • Skill in troubleshooting with logs, metrics, alarms and deployment history, plus root cause analysis, rollback decisions and operational runbooks.
  • Strong Linux and Git skills, with Bash or Python scripting for AWS CLI automation, CI/CD and operational tooling.
  • Hands-on experience running AI services and APIs in production, including monitoring, reliability and security for AI-powered features.
  • Ability to support several engineering teams, troubleshoot across infrastructure and application layers, document solutions and enable secure self-service.
