Description

The company is a San Francisco team building technology to push cancer mortality toward zero, with the aim of catching disease earlier and more easily so patients reach optimal treatment sooner.

Backed by Y Combinator, the team combines bioscience, engineering, machine learning and design to build diagnostics from the ground up.

This role owns the full measurement chain, from the sensor to a reported quantitative result, including readout electronics, signal processing and the algorithms that convert raw sensor data into that result.

The team encourages applications even when you do not meet every qualification. Research it cites finds men tend to apply when they meet about 60% of the criteria, while women and other underrepresented groups often apply only when they meet 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Set the readout architecture for sensor arrays, covering excitation, lock-in or demodulation, ADC selection and the noise budget.
  • Build and validate signal processing and calibration algorithms for drift, temperature compensation, baseline estimation and multiplex deconvolution.
  • Study noise sources and derive instrument specifications from assay requirements.
  • Implement algorithms in firmware, host software or both, with version control, unit tests and traceability to requirements.
  • Plan and run analytical verification covering precision, linearity, interference and robustness, following CLSI guidance.
  • Support hardware verification and validation, design reviews, and design history file content for software and algorithm components under IEC 62304.

Requirements

  • A master's or PhD in electrical engineering, physics or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years developing signal acquisition and processing for medical or scientific instruments, including at least one product that has received FDA clearance.
  • 6+ years of experience overall.
  • Hands-on low-noise analog design and mixed-signal system experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and in C/C++ or Rust.
  • Experience defining and running analytical performance studies.
  • Experience with IVD or point-of-care diagnostics.

Conditions

Only US citizens or candidates on a visa are eligible.

Based in San Francisco.

The company is an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive workplace free from discrimination and harassment.

Benefits

  • Join a team aiming to change how diagnostic testing is done.
  • Work alongside leading experts from several fields in a collaborative, innovative environment.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Room to grow professionally at a fast-moving startup.
  • Make a tangible difference to healthcare and patient outcomes through at-home diagnostics.
