Senior Sales Engineer, Enterprise

The company builds data pipelines that move information for thousands of organizations, and it is now combining with a data company known for analytics engineering.

You will join Field Engineering as a Senior Solutions Architect, Enterprise, acting as a technical advisor to some of the largest and most strategic customers as they assess, adopt, and grow their use of dbt.

You will work with Sales to learn each customer's technical and business goals, design solutions on the dbt platform, and show measurable value during evaluation.

The role covers the full customer journey, from discovery and evaluation through adoption and expansion, and you will bring customer needs back to Product and Engineering.

Tools you will work with include AWS, GCP, Azure, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Kafka, Grafana, Linux, Windows, Python, Java, Iceberg, dbt Cloud, SQL, and data catalogs.

While the two teams merge their systems and career sites, you may see references to both companies during hiring.

Responsibilities

• Learn how Enterprise customers operate, what they need, and what they require for data replication, transformation, and modeling
• Run a tight proof-of-value process that covers ingestion through transformation to secure the technical win
• Give technical presentations to Enterprise audiences on the combined value of the company's products and dbt
• Guide customers through dbt Cloud proof-of-concept work, including private-cloud deployments where needed
• Build and maintain relationships with key Enterprise customers and partners such as Snowflake, AWS, and Databricks
• Own the technical relationship across the whole customer lifecycle, from pre-sale evaluation to adoption and expansion
• Work with Product and Engineering to fit solutions to Enterprise needs and shape the dbt Cloud enterprise roadmap
• Keep up with trends in data movement, transformation, and analytics engineering, and take part in the dbt community

Requirements

• At least 7 years in data replication, sales engineering, solutions architecture, or consulting in data operations, analytics, or BI
• A strong technical background in database replication, cloud infrastructure, and modern data warehouse architectures
• Hands-on experience with SQL, ETL/ELT, and data modeling
• Experience with modern analytics technology, including cloud warehouses or lakes, transformation tools such as dbt or similar, data catalogs, and BI tools
• The ability to turn technical and business requirements into concrete solutions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and comfort working in ambiguous, quick-moving settings
• Optional bonus: prior experience at an analytics, ETL, BI, or open-source software company
• Optional bonus: hands-on experience with dbt Cloud, dbt Core, or the company
• Optional bonus: experience with data modeling methods such as dimensional, data vault, Kimball, or 3NF
• Optional bonus: experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or traditional enterprise ETL tools such as Informatica, Boomi, or Talend
• Optional bonus: experience with self-hosted software applications and their supporting infrastructure
• Optional bonus: hands-on networking experience in cloud and on-premise environments

Conditions

Full-time position based in the South Central Region

On-target earnings (OTE) are split 70% base salary and 30% variable pay

Pay range: $197,516.46 - $303,462.32 USD, set by role, level, and location, and may include sales incentives or target bonuses

Individual pay within the range depends on skills, experience, education or training, business need, and market demand
