Description

The company is hiring a Senior Power BI Engineer to give advanced support on projects and requests covering administration, configuration, user support, and training developers on best practices for business intelligence and analytics platforms, with Power BI as the main focus.

You must be eligible to work in the US. The company will not sponsor a visa.

Responsibilities

  • Run and watch over the Power BI platform so production stays stable and performs well.
  • Work with the team to plan and manage Power BI implementations, upgrades, security, auditing, configuration, and evaluation of new or additional products and improvements as needed.
  • Plan Power BI capacity, track metrics, and recommend performance tuning, then carry out changes through review, approval, and change management.
  • Install and configure data gateways so the platform can reach multiple data sources as needed.
  • Manage Power BI tenant and capacity settings, checking the effect on the environment before any change goes live through change management.
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance on terminal and gateway servers, including patches and software upgrades.
  • Review new Power BI Service, gateway, and desktop releases ahead of time, assess their effect on the environments, and act on them as needed.
  • Act as the first escalation point for production and platform issues and as the main contact with Microsoft Technical Support for open problems in the Power BI environments.
  • Provide on-call support and direct other IT on-call staff on Power BI matters.
  • Write down application best practices, standards, processes, and guidelines for using and administering the BI tools. Make sure the platform follows IT policies, standards, and agreed service levels.
  • Act as the Power BI subject matter expert by building and running ongoing training and giving functional and technical direction to super-users (content developers) so they can work self-service. Set a standard development process for content developers.
  • Report production issues to the business and the Business Intelligence team promptly, covering the problem, the fix, and current status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years designing, developing, and administering business intelligence applications, including maintenance and support, performance monitoring and tuning, version upgrades, software configuration, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, and IT processes such as change management, configuration management, problem resolution, and incident tracking.
  • 5-7 years of report development, data models, and administration in an enterprise BI reporting tool.
  • 5-7 years working with cloud environments and software such as Google BigQuery, SQL Server, and Informatica, plus relational and OLAP database design.
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC and project management steps used to deliver IT solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT systems, infrastructure, and operations, including security methods, policies, and standards such as firewall rules, Active Directory, and row-level security in Power BI Desktop and Service.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Power BI products and licensing, and how they work together.
  • Extensive experience connecting to many data sources, including through the gateway and cloud sources.
  • Advanced skill in troubleshooting Power BI and client issues down to root cause.
  • Advanced knowledge of report development, data modeling, and administration in Power BI.
  • Strong SQL, database technology, and design concepts, including relational structures, star schemas, models, and diagrams.
  • Experience defining and building metrics and KPIs.
  • Ability to manage several projects and priorities, meet deadlines, and document progress toward delivery dates.
  • Preferred: experience with Power BI report development, data modeling, and administration.
  • Preferred: experience administering Power BI, including system monitoring, log analysis, performance analysis, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Bonus: experience working in a SAFe Agile environment.
  • Ability to understand, build, and maintain PowerShell scripts is desirable.
