Description

The company makes a ring and companion app that track readiness, activity and sleep, and it is growing quickly.

This senior role builds an intelligence layer for the company's global manufacturing. You will work hands-on with suppliers to bring factory images, ML models, equipment signals, MES records, test results and material genealogy together into dependable production tools.

You will apply machine vision and machine learning to improve inspection, yield, process control, root-cause work and traceability across contract manufacturers and suppliers. The work spans factory floors, Python notebooks and production data pipelines, with a focus on practical, sturdy analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Build the manufacturing data base by connecting MES, test equipment and cloud systems across the supplier network so production data is captured accurately.
  • Standardize data models and strengthen traceability so data stays intact from raw parts through to shipped product.
  • Set up data-quality checks, validation rules and monitoring that support sound operational decisions.
  • Find and build machine-vision and image-based inspection opportunities across factory operations.
  • Design end-to-end vision systems, including optics, cameras and lighting, plus classical and deep-learning algorithms.
  • Create data-labeling workflows and model validation methods that turn vision results into decisions that improve yield and quality.
  • Build automated analysis engines and ML and vision models that catch process drift, defects and anomalies on the production line.
  • Create dashboards and alerts that link images with process parameters and test data to speed root-cause analysis and limit yield loss.
  • Write reusable analytics libraries and tools so insights scale across the company's manufacturing programs and partners.
  • Explore digital-twin and simulation methods to test manufacturing scenarios, line capacity and process flows before hardware is ready.
  • Lead the technical delivery of data, vision and analytics work through every NPI stage, from EVT and DVT to mass production and sustaining.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, contract manufacturers and equipment vendors to set technical requirements, acceptance criteria and standards for deploying and maintaining production systems.
  • Find and rank high-impact industrial AI, vision and connected-manufacturing opportunities that address quality, yield and cycle time.
  • Define the long-term manufacturing intelligence roadmap, set reusable data and vision standards, and shape technical investment decisions with leadership.

Requirements

  • Have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in manufacturing software, industrial data science, machine learning, automation, test engineering, supplier development, or an equivalent mix.
  • Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, robotics, data science or a related field.
  • Have deployed software, analytics or ML solutions in a factory, lab, warehouse or other production setting.
  • Be strong in Python and in libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Have worked with computer vision and image processing, such as OpenCV, image classification, object detection, segmentation, OCR/OCV, anomaly detection or metrology.
  • Understand MES, manufacturing test systems, equipment interfaces, PLC or industrial-control data, and unit-level traceability.
  • Have applied statistics, design of experiments, process capability, SPC, measurement-system analysis or manufacturing-quality analysis.
  • Have worked directly with contract manufacturers, suppliers, equipment vendors and cross-functional engineers.
  • Can travel regularly to manufacturing sites in Asia and other supplier locations.
  • Have integrated cameras, lighting, lenses, barcode readers, robots, PLCs, motion systems or automated inspection equipment.
  • Have experience with digital manufacturing, discrete-event simulation, digital twins or factory capacity modeling.
  • Have worked on electronics, battery, precision assembly, SMT, molding, coatings, laser processing or other high-volume consumer-electronics processes.
  • Write clearly and manage stakeholders well, influencing people without direct authority.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco office.

Regular travel to manufacturing sites in Asia and other supplier locations is part of the job.
