Description

The company is a cybersecurity leader that protects people, processes and technologies at organizations of every industry. It has operated since 2011 and offers an AI-native security platform.

Its large distributed systems handle nearly 3 trillion events each day, and that volume rises every day.

The company expects staff to use AI tools in their work and to help adopt AI responsibly through experimentation and new ideas.

A new SRE team is being split off from the core SRE group. It will sit inside specific product groups to help the infrastructure and products handle fast growth in traffic and data.

The core SRE group recently added adaptive concurrency to its Kafka library to control flow and protect database performance. It is also automating large parts of how new cloud environments are built.

Current work includes a next-generation infrastructure and security platform with an application and service delivery layer, large-scale distributed data storage and replication, and a search and distributed graph system.

The role is to build and lead high-performing engineering teams, starting with this new SRE group, while encouraging collaboration, new ideas and steady improvement. You will work across team boundaries to improve platform resilience and work with peer leaders and executives on strategy and technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coach and grow engineers so that they form cohesive, high-performing teams and build their careers.
  • Lead collaboration between SRE, development, security and operations teams to make systems more resilient.

  • Keep strong working relationships with peer leaders so that technical direction and operational priorities stay aligned.
  • Lead change efforts that improve processes and raise engineering quality.
  • Shape architecture decisions that affect reliability and scale.
  • Spread SRE best practices across several teams.
  • Oversee how reliability metrics and SLOs are put in place.
  • Push forward automation and infrastructure as code.

Requirements

  • Show a record of building, developing and keeping high-performing engineering teams.
  • Have 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Have a proven history of working across organizational boundaries on complex technical initiatives.
  • Bring solid design and problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to engineering excellence, quality, security and performance.
  • Have strong executive presence and communication skills for working with senior leaders.
  • Have led distributed teams in a remote-first environment.
  • Be proficient with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI.
  • Understand distributed systems and reliability engineering principles in depth.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Bonus points: strategic thinking that turns business goals into technical roadmaps.
  • Bonus points: stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Bonus points: a record of successful cross-functional collaboration.
  • Bonus points: skill in change management and organizational development.
  • Bonus points: the ability to build consensus and drive decisions across multiple teams.
