Description

The company is a news organization. Its journalists report from nearly 160 countries, and its work reaches readers in print, audio, and on its digital platforms and apps.

This is a senior leadership role in which you will move the company toward one unified global corporate security operation. You will manage in-house and contract security staff directly and work closely with senior executives and operational leads across the business.

Success in this role means building a coherent physical security structure, improving how teams work together, and making sure the security program keeps pace with the company's growth.

Responsibilities

  • Build a global security operations structure that covers staff and offices in New York City, other U.S. locations, 8 international offices, and 33 international bureaus. Keep service delivery consistent and operations resilient.
  • Set up and maintain global governance frameworks that apply corporate security standards across all offices, bureaus, and regions. You are the final escalation point for operational policy decisions.
  • Give your team clear accountability and ownership, and make cross-functional support for internal clients run smoothly.
  • Build a professional, excellence-driven, and innovative team culture by assessing, training, evaluating, and coaching team members, drawing on your own experience and the company's development programs.
  • Oversee the daily management, success, and growth of your team. Own all operational records, including scheduling, daily activity logs, overtime, incident reports, and service ticket submissions. Drive day-to-day organizational change.
  • Assess team members' performance, discuss conduct and the quality and quantity of their work, and recommend ways to improve.
  • Respond quickly to team concerns, feedback, and suggestions. Keep an open, proactive, growth-minded working relationship with your staff.
  • Act as deputy to the Executive Director, Corporate Security, on operational matters and on carrying out strategic security goals across the enterprise.
  • Identify, assess, and reduce physical security threats. Work with the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), building security, and other teams to gather intelligence in real time, monitor the situation globally, and respond fast to emergencies.
  • Find security tools and technologies that strengthen security awareness across the company's locations.
  • Enforce security standards for employees, contractors, tenants, and visitors at all locations.
  • Represent security leadership to other departments, stakeholders, and in scheduled meetings.
  • In exceptional circumstances, perform the work of any role you supervise. You may fully cover for the Executive Director, Corporate Security, during absences and carry out all of that role's duties.
  • Show support for journalistic independence and for the company's commitment to seeking the truth and helping people understand the world.

Requirements

  • Bring at least 15 years of physical security experience, including leading people.
  • Have experience scaling security operations in a global organization, shifting toward a proactive, intelligence-led, and technology-driven model.
  • Show a record of coaching, mentoring, and developing staff to high performance, and of holding a team to its goals.
  • Handle conflict and respond to team, employee, or stakeholder problems in line with established procedures, company culture, and workplace norms.
  • Build collaborative relationships and influence within your team, across departments, and at every level.
  • Have hands-on experience with security technology, end-user support, and ticketing systems, including access control, visitor management, video monitoring, and current AI and detection tools.
  • Have experience with crisis management and emergency response planning.
  • Adjust quickly when priorities, roles, or responsibilities change, and handle several tasks at once.
  • Preferred: union experience.
  • Preferred: experience in a media organization.
  • Preferred: experience developing and delivering training programs.
  • Preferred: knowledge of project management and planning.
