Description

The company is building its internal operations around AI, starting with how it supports and scales its staff.

This role is the first dedicated AI engineer on the Finance Technology team within G&A, a position that carries early leadership in shaping how Finance works with AI.

You will work across Accounting, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Procurement and Internal Audit, and with Corporate IT, Data and GTM Systems, to keep the back-office stack reliable, integrated and compliant for a public SaaS business that is moving toward AI.

The team owns the roadmap, health and governance of the ERP and financial systems (such as NetSuite or Oracle), procure-to-pay (such as Zip), revenue and billing systems, and their integrations and automation. The focus is on defining how AI gets built into Finance, not only applying it.

Responsibilities

  • Redesign core Finance workflows, including accounting, procurement, deal desk approvals, revenue and the month-end and quarter-end close, around AI rather than incremental automation.
  • Build AI-powered workflows, copilots and agents that automate and support Finance processes.
  • Design and implement systems that connect SaaS tools such as NetSuite, Zip, Zone Advanced Billing and Avalara or Vertex.
  • Work with the internal IT AI team to set practices for prompt engineering and evaluation, LLM system design and orchestration, and the versioning, testing, security and observability of AI systems.
  • Turn business problems raised by stakeholders into scalable AI solutions that speed up execution and improve decisions for Finance.
  • Find high-value places to replace manual work with AI-native solutions.
  • Define and track metrics for efficiency, time saved and operational effectiveness.
  • Advise Finance leadership on what AI can do, not only on the requests they make.
  • Design systems that protect sensitive financial data, with security, privacy and trust built in.
  • Work with Internal Audit, Security, Legal and Global IT to deploy AI in a compliant and ethical way.
  • Align with Security, Global IT and GTM Systems on shared AI infrastructure and standards, and adopt company-wide AI patterns, tools and practices.
  • Build reusable frameworks, workflows, playbooks and training so Finance teams can use and improve AI tools, and help non-technical colleagues do so with confidence.
  • Champion scalable, well-governed AI systems that fit the wider technology estate, and help shape how the company becomes AI-first internally, starting with Finance systems.

Requirements

  • Curiosity and willingness to experiment and rethink how Finance work gets done.
  • At least 5 years of engineering or data engineering experience, including at least 2 years building AI, ML or LLM-based systems that produced measurable business results.
  • A track record of setting technical direction and building 0 to 1 systems with real organizational impact.
  • Hands-on experience with React, JSON, Python, SQL and modern APIs.
  • Experience with LLM platforms such as OpenAI, Claude or Gemini.
  • Experience designing AI-powered workflows, agents or copilots.
  • Experience connecting to Finance systems through Runlayer and MCPs.
  • Experience integrating with enterprise financial SaaS.
  • Experience designing scalable, secure systems, automation frameworks and internal tools.
  • Experience handling sensitive data and applying responsible AI practices.
  • Ability to turn vague business problems into workable technical solutions.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, covering privacy, security, bias awareness and human oversight.

Conditions

Base pay for US locations ranges from $180,000 to $270,000 USD, set by skills, experience, education or training, and work location.

Your recruiter can share the specific pay range for your preferred location during hiring.
