Description

Senior full stack engineer role on the lending engineering team, a small group where financial operations, product and data meet. You will report to the Engineering Director, Lending and work closely with teammates and stakeholders.

The company is a venture-backed startup. Its lending software lets colleges and universities set up and manage their own private student loans so schools can fund students directly. It also runs a talent business that uses student loan repayment as a recruiting and retention tool for healthcare employers.

The company is on the Forbes Fintech 50 list, is a portfolio company of the Society for Human Resource Management, and was named Startup of the Year by StartUp Boston.

The role suits someone who wants to improve a complex codebase carefully and precisely with every change.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain loan origination features, from application intake and credit decisioning through servicing and collections.
  • Create internal tools so the finance team can manage loans, set up programs, produce reports and handle school and borrower requests accurately.
  • Take part in architecture choices, code reviews and design discussions that affect the platform's long-term health.
  • Use AI-assisted methods such as code generation, test writing, refactoring and documentation to multiply your output and ship better software faster.
  • Work with compliance and legal to build TILA, ECOA, fair lending and state licensing rules into the design from the start.
  • Build and monitor data pipelines with the data team for credit modeling, compliance reporting and school portfolio analytics, keeping data accurate.
  • Now and then, talk with technical staff at schools and universities about integration needs and platform reliability.
  • Help grow a culture of learning, high standards and direct, low-ego feedback.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent, with solid skill in Python, TypeScript and/or JavaScript. You write clean, maintainable code in each and choose the right one for the task.
  • Experience building operational or internal tools for fintech, lending or another regulated field.
  • You use coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot or Claude as a real force multiplier, not just for autocomplete or review. You want to lead the team in applying AI to engineering.
  • Familiarity with Django or a similar Python web framework and React, enough to build full-stack features and follow the full request lifecycle.
  • Hands-on work with cloud or serverless infrastructure, such as AWS Lambda, GCP Cloud Functions or similar, plus current deployment practices.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, able to explain technical choices to non-engineers and write documentation people actually read.
  • You care about technology that widens access to education and economic mobility, and you keep going through the challenges of a changing industry.
  • Exposure to fintech, payments, banking or financial services, including adjacent experience.
  • Experience designing and building data pipelines, ETL workflows or event-driven systems that are reliable, observable and correct.
  • Knowledge of TILA, ECOA or state lending rules and what they mean for code.
  • Startup experience where you have worn several hats.
  • Experience integrating with loan servicers, payment processors or financial data providers.
