Description

You will lead the team that builds on-demand compute infrastructure for automotive test and simulation benches, covering bench orchestration, scheduling, identity, inventory, job execution, observability and results management across several sites.

You set the technical direction, deliver the roadmap, and own reliability and support for test-program customers. You turn their needs into lasting platform features and build a strong team to grow hardware-in-the-loop work across the company.

The team is about 15 engineers spread across platform services, infrastructure, bench integration, scheduling, developer tooling and test enablement. The platform is moving from a single-lab MVP to several sites, with hundreds of benches running automation around the clock.

Responsibilities

  • Build and grow the roughly 15-person engineering group, and define how it will operate as the platform scales from one lab to many sites with hundreds of benches running 24/7.
  • Plan capacity and investment for cloud, hardware, networking, licensing, observability and suppliers across multi-location labs that hold millions of dollars of bench equipment. Make clear investment calls, define key observability metrics, and set baselines for run-rate spend and cost per bench-hour.
  • Set measurable goals for availability, throughput, latency, utilization, cost, capacity and customer enablement, and use data to find and fix problems.
  • Own the multi-year roadmap and work with divisional stakeholders, IT, networking and lab operations to support more than 500 benches, including new physical variants and virtual scenarios.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery across bench registration, inventory, scheduling, job execution, boot, results, artifacts, APIs and developer tooling, keeping operations reliable at every site and environment.
  • Define clear KSIs and KPIs for onboarding, automation throughput, availability, queue time, bench utilization, data capacity, cost per bench-hour and support response. Review them regularly and use them to show business value: avoided manual-test costs in the millions and faster software delivery.
  • Set the bar for a platform handling thousands of workflows a day and terabytes of evidence, covering architecture, security, testing, observability, resilience, capacity planning and production readiness.
  • Clear systemic blockers in network reachability, site readiness, identity, bench capacity, storage, data movement and shared infrastructure, and make quick trade-offs between teams so delivery and operations keep moving.
  • Hire, coach and retain engineers, build leadership depth and succession, and set up routines that do not depend on a few people working heroically.
  • Work with IT infrastructure, cloud, identity, database, security and platform-service owners to set requirements, order dependencies, unblock access and provisioning, and agree on supportable operating models.
  • Work with networking and site teams on routing, firewalls, proxies, private reachability, disconnected-bench behavior and multi-site connectivity.
  • Align peer engineering and platform teams on interfaces, shared capabilities, migrations, release readiness and ownership boundaries.
  • Turn test-program workload needs into platform priorities, onboarding plans, measurable outcomes and clearly explained trade-offs.
  • Give program leadership concise updates on status, risk, KPIs, capacity and investment, and keep decisions, owners, sequencing and escalation paths clear.

Requirements

  • Required: a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Required: 10 to 15+ years of professional experience in software, infrastructure, platform engineering, distributed systems or test automation.
  • Required: at least 7 years leading managers of managers and building software or infrastructure teams of 20+ engineers.
  • Required: experience owning a technical roadmap and delivering measurable results for a platform, product or shared service.
  • Required: a solid grasp of distributed systems, service interfaces, APIs, data models, workflow orchestration, reliability and operations.
  • Required: hands-on work with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, IAM, secrets management, databases and observability.
  • Required: the ability to weigh architecture and trade-offs across application, infrastructure, networking, security and physical-system boundaries.
  • Required: clear communication of technical risk and recommendations to engineers, program staff and executives.
  • Required: proven people leadership, including hiring, coaching, performance management, feedback, workload planning and talent development.
  • Required: the ability to work well across many teams and locations in a heavily interdependent engineering setting.
  • Preferred: experience with automotive software, SDV, ADAS, robotics, hardware-in-the-loop or physical test infrastructure.
  • Preferred: experience shaping architecture across application, networking, security and physical-system boundaries.
  • Preferred: experience building compute platforms, test farms, lab infrastructure, resource schedulers or developer platforms.
  • Preferred: experience with Go or a similar systems language, REST/OpenAPI services, Postgres, Nomad or Kubernetes, Vault, Entra ID, GitHub Actions and artifact repositories.
  • Preferred: experience with bench inventory, device provisioning, host bootstrapping, hardware discovery or physical-network integration.
  • Preferred: experience setting service-level objectives, platform KPIs, cost and capacity models, and customer adoption measures.
  • Preferred: experience leading multi-site or hybrid teams and working with principal technical leaders.
  • Preferred: experience moving legacy or program-specific infrastructure onto a standard shared platform.
