The company runs an AI-powered product network for trusted trade, used by governments and businesses to keep trade moving while making the global economy more resilient and secure.
The Cloud Engineering team is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the group that runs the regulated and sovereign environments used by government customers, including FedRAMP environments and dedicated sovereign clusters. These accredited, compliance-constrained deployments sit under strict rules.
You will report to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering and manage a team of 3 to 4 engineers across the US, UK, and Australia.
Connectivity and automation are limited here, and accreditation requirements shape engineering choices long before design work starts. The aim is to run this domain as a platform rather than as one-off builds, so each new accredited environment goes live faster than the last and product teams can ship without handling the regulatory detail themselves.
Responsibilities
Own the design and operation of the regulated and sovereign environments on AWS and Azure, including the infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, and release tooling under them.
Turn environment builds into a repeatable blueprint so the number of environments can grow without adding headcount at the same rate.
Make sure key technical decisions in the domain hold up through design reviews, RFCs, prototypes, and whiteboard sessions, and keep the team's quality bar high.
Write and build hands-on tooling, usually operational tooling or greenfield projects, to stay close to the code.
Work with Security and Compliance to build secure-by-default patterns into the environments and make control evidence a normal byproduct of daily work.
Keep accreditations current by meeting contractual vulnerability remediation windows, running access reviews on schedule, and honoring data-handling obligations.
Keep availability high with progressive deployments such as blue/green releases and multi-region, high availability setups with redundancy.
Represent the team in audits, assessments, and customer conversations about security posture and data residency.
Run a planning process that produces realistic commitments, and give implementation, commercial, and customer teams go-live dates they can plan around.
Set up solid operations practice: runbooks, documentation, capacity planning, on-call coverage, and incident response. Take your own shifts in the escalation rotation.
Own the cost of the environments, understand what drives it, report on it, and prioritize controls that keep a growing fleet efficient.
Explain accreditation and regulatory constraints in terms that product and commercial teams can plan around.
Build working relationships with Implementations, Security and Compliance, Developer Experience, and product engineering, and use them to negotiate dependencies and priorities.
Lead, coach, and develop your engineers, including performance management, reviews, input on compensation, and career growth.
Manage a team spread across several time zones.
Review team structure and coverage against the needs of the domain, act as hiring manager for open roles, and work with recruiting to build a pipeline and close candidates.
Requirements
A background in SRE or platform engineering leadership.
Experience managing engineers directly, including full ownership of performance, growth, and hiring, and the ability to lead managers as the group expands.
8+ years building and running cloud infrastructure in production, including time owning an environment from end to end.
Direct delivery experience in US federal or other highly regulated government environments, such as FedRAMP or a comparable compliance-heavy program, and a working grasp of how accreditation shapes engineering.
Production experience building and running environments on AWS, Azure, or both.
Strong infrastructure as code skills with Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar, and hands-on Kubernetes work, including cluster management and upkeep.
Strong software engineering fundamentals and sound technical judgment, with the ability to lead by example and not only through the org chart.
Experience designing tooling and patterns for air-gapped and compliance-heavy infrastructure.
A record of setting up operational practice on a team, including runbooks, on-call, documentation, and planning, without slowing delivery.
Experience leading engineers across distant time zones and communicating clearly in writing.
A strong sense of shared ownership, a collaborative approach, and excellent written and verbal communication. This role works across engineering, security, compliance, implementation, and customers, so you must be comfortable working beyond your own team's boundaries.
A BS or MS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
Eligibility for a US security clearance.
Experience with non-US national accreditation regimes.
Experience taking a compliance program from zero, including sponsorship, initial authorization, and delta assessment.
Experience at a startup or high-growth technology company.

The base salary range is $240,000 to $280,000 per year. Final pay depends on factors such as experience, education, training, critical skills, and business needs.

The role comes with either a discretionary bonus or a variable compensation plan, depending on the position.
The recruiter assigned to the role can share more detail on compensation and benefits during the hiring process.
