Description

The company makes automation products and helps manufacturers become more productive, sustainable, and agile. Its customers include food producers, medicine makers, and companies working on clean water and green mobility.

This is a new product development team building embedded software for programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Because hardware and software are tightly coupled in these products, prior embedded software experience is preferred.

The role is a senior position in platform embedded software and reports to the Team Lead, Embedded Software. It is hybrid, based in Mayfield Heights, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Build safety- and security-critical embedded software for new PLCs.
  • Work across hardware setups from off-the-shelf components to custom System on Chip designs, and across general purpose and embedded real-time operating systems.
  • Create and maintain automated tests for new and existing features.
  • Use current continuous integration and development tools, and push for better tools and practices across the global development organization.
  • Apply object-oriented programming concepts. C++ and Python are preferred.
  • Take part in the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.
  • Work on an Agile team inside a larger Scaled Agile Framework organization, planning in sprints, program increments, and the long-term product roadmap.
  • Implement platform BSPs, features, and subsystems, and give technical guidance to the team.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and encourage knowledge sharing across the development community.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US. The company will not sponsor employment visas now or in the future for this role.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, typically.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a record of professional software design and implementation.
  • Experience with embedded software, especially on an embedded RTOS or Linux.
  • Experience debugging with an on-chip debugger or a software debugger such as GDB.
  • Experience building automated tests and tools in a high-level language such as Python.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design, and programming, with experience in C++ or Python.
  • Experience developing automation frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with requirements decomposition and test traceability.
  • Experience with open source tools such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of unit testing tools such as GTest or CppUnit.
  • Experience working in Agile teams and with Agile project tools.
  • Experience with industrial protocols, especially Common Industrial Protocol (CIP).
  • Experience developing software and testing against safety and security standards such as IEC 61508 or IEC 62443.
  • Advanced courses or a degree in engineering, computer science, or controls. Preferred items: a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent software engineering knowledge.
