Senior Embedded Software Developer (Networking, Security)

The team builds secure, connected embedded systems that link to cloud platforms and support remote device management.

The company makes climate technology and energy management products, including connected devices and intelligent control systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

The project aims for reliable communication in real-world conditions, combining embedded engineering, networking and cybersecurity for edge devices.

Responsibilities

• Design and build embedded software and device features for connected IoT systems.
• Build and maintain networking features for devices that connect to the cloud.
• Create telemetry, monitoring, remote provisioning and over-the-air firmware update functions.
• Own the bootloaders, firmware update systems and device lifecycle features.
• Write secure communication code that follows embedded security practice.
• Bring up and integrate Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, Zigbee and Thread, and resolve issues in them.
• Debug problems and find root causes on real hardware.
• Write and run unit, integration and system tests.
• Work with architects, hardware engineers, QA and security specialists.
• Take part in technical discussions, estimates, planning and customer conversations.
• Write and keep technical documentation up to date.
• Follow engineering standards, security requirements and quality processes.
• Help improve development practices and engineering workflows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience writing embedded software in C/C++.
• Hands-on work with ARM microcontrollers from vendors such as STM32, NXP, TI or Silicon Labs.
• Good grasp of embedded architecture, RTOS concepts and how hardware and software interact.
• Practical experience with wireless technologies such as BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, Zigbee or Thread.
• Solid networking knowledge: TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, IPv4/IPv6, MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS and WebSockets.
• Experience with cloud-connected devices and IoT ecosystems.
• Experience building OTA/FOTA firmware update mechanisms.
• Working knowledge of embedded security: secure boot, TLS/SSL, certificate management, authentication and cryptographic basics.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and Ethernet interfaces.
• Experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Embedded Linux or similar platforms.
• Strong debugging skills with J-Link, ST-Link, GDB or equivalent tools.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows.
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher.
• Experience with IoT product security standards and secure development practices (a plus).
• Practical work with lwIP or similar networking stacks (a plus).
• Experience with secure bootloader development and device provisioning (a plus).
• Knowledge of PKI, certificate-based authentication and hardware security modules (a plus).
• Familiarity with Docker, GitLab CI/CD and automated testing frameworks (a plus).
• Experience with AWS IoT, Azure IoT or Google Cloud IoT (a plus).
• Basic hardware design and debugging knowledge (a plus).
• Experience with secure manufacturing and device onboarding processes (a plus).
