Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join our Customer 360 development team at a pivotal moment in our technological evolution. We are building the next generation of our customer database, moving toward a unified source of truth that powers critical enterprise applications. In this role, your work will directly influence the customer experience by ensuring that every interaction—from personalized shopping recommendations to enterprise support—is informed by accurate, comprehensive data. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated team of developers to transform complex data ingestion workflows into streamlined, automated processes. We are looking for a forward-thinking developer who is passionate about data integrity, excellence in software development, and creating tools that drive measurable business growth.

THE TEAM

The Customer 360 team is a cross-functional, collaborative group dedicated to building the definitive "source of truth" for Dillard's customer intelligence. We are a high-trust, self-driven team that values curiosity and adaptability as we modernize our customer data strategy to provide a holistic, full-view understanding of our customers. Our scope encompasses the full data lifecycle—from initial research and data modeling to designing robust APIs and developing complex, scalable batch processes. We are looking for a senior developer who is ready to take ownership of foundational systems, champion architectural integrity, and thrive within a team that is as passionate about software development as it is about the success of our colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • The responsibilities below represent the core functions of the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties:
  • Design & Model Data: Architect and implement scalable data models that serve as the foundation for a unified "source of truth" for Dillard's customer data.
  • Architect Ingestion Pipelines: Develop and maintain complex, high-throughput batch processes to ingest, standardize, validate, and deduplicate customer data from disparate sources.
  • Build Robust APIs: Design and develop high-performance backend services and APIs using Spring Boot and Java to power enterprise-wide customer engagement applications.
  • Modernize Infrastructure: Drive the architectural integrity of our platforms by creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and leveraging containerization for deployment across multiple-environments.
  • Champion Development Standards: Uphold technical excellence through rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and proactive vulnerability remediation.
  • Collaborate & Innovate: Engage actively within our cross-functional, co-located team, leveraging AI-assisted development tools and continuous research to stay ahead of industry standards and deliver new features.
  • THE “MUST-HAVES”
  • Expert Java Development: Deep proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and associated ecosystems; or similar tech stack.
  • Data Modeling Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in architecting, developing, and optimizing data ingestion pipelines, batch processes, and complex data models.
  • System Design & Architecture: Strong understanding of scalable architectural patterns, API design, and best practices for creating maintainable, high-throughput backend services.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Advanced proficiency with Git-based source control and the ability to maintain robust CI/CD pipelines in a containerized environment.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving: A proven ability to own the full lifecycle of a feature, from research and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Exceptional communication skills with a track record of thriving in cross-functional, co-located teams and mentoring junior developers.
  • AI-Enabled Development: A forward-thinking, adaptive mindset with a strong desire to integrate AI-assisted development tools (like Copilot/Gemini) into all facets of the software development lifecycle.
  • THE “NICE-TO-HAVES”
  • Data Strategy Expertise: Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) concepts, Customer Data Platforms (CDP), or data governance strategies in an enterprise environment.
  • Relational Database Depth: Proficiency in IBM Db2 (LUW) or similar relational database management systems.
  • Distributed Systems & Big Data: Familiarity with high-volume, distributed data processing frameworks or NoSQL database patterns.
  • Observability & Performance Tuning: Experience designing systems with comprehensive monitoring and logging, or a track record of performance tuning for complex, high-throughput batch processes.
  • Data Security & Privacy: Familiarity with secure data handling techniques and compliance standards, ensuring sensitive information is protected throughout its lifecycle.
  • Containerized Development Experience: Familiarity with containerized environments, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and best practices for packaging and deploying enterprise applications.
  • Location & Hours: This is a full-time, on-site position located at our Little Rock, Arkansas headquarters. A high level of attendance is required as an essential function of this position.
  • No immigration sponsorship (ex. H-1B, TN, STEM OPT) is available for this position
