Senior Database Developer - C13

Description

The role covers designing, building, tuning and supporting enterprise database systems across several database platforms.

You will work with application developers, data engineers, infrastructure teams and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, high-performing data solutions for critical business processes and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain database solutions on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL and other relational platforms.
• Write and maintain stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, packages and schemas.
• Write complex SQL queries that serve applications, reporting and analysis, and tune them for speed.
• Build, fix and support ETL and ELT pipelines that integrate and transform data.
• Schedule, watch and support batch and data integration jobs in AutoSys or a similar enterprise scheduler.
• Write automation scripts in Unix/Linux shell, PowerShell, Python or similar languages.
• Tune database performance, optimize queries, design indexing and partitioning, and plan capacity.
• Support database deployments and keep development, test and production environments running.
• Apply database security standards, access controls, encryption and auditing requirements.
• Work with application teams on efficient, scalable data models and architectures.
• Support system upgrades, database migrations and cloud modernization projects.
• Investigate production issues, find root causes and put lasting fixes in place.
• Write and keep up technical documentation, operating procedures and support runbooks.
• Join on-call rotation and production releases when required.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on application development, with a strong focus on database work.
• Strong SQL skills across several platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL), Oracle (PL/SQL), MySQL and similar.
• Strong database design, normalization and data modeling skills.
• Hands-on experience developing and supporting ETL processes.
• Experience scheduling and managing batch jobs in AutoSys or a similar enterprise scheduler.
• Strong Unix/Linux administration and shell scripting experience.
• Experience with scripting in Unix, Python, PowerShell or similar languages.
• Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing and monitoring.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git, Bitbucket, GitHub or Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, dimensional modeling and large-scale data processing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and juggle several priorities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Solid experience with production support and incident management.
• Ability to mentor junior developers and set database development best practices.
• Preferred: a master's degree in Computer Science or Statistics.

Conditions

Full-time position based in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States.

Base salary range is $142,320.00 to $213,480.00.
