Description

The company is the company, and this Senior Data Scientist role sits in the Biologics Discovery organization within the Data Science team.

You will work alongside the In Silico Discovery (ISD) group, which builds molecular design and property-prediction models covering developability, affinity and binding, other molecular properties, and liability risk. ISD owns that core modeling. Your job is to build the data-facing ML pieces, such as featurization and model-ready datasets, that make ISD's models quicker to build and easier to trust.

Biologics Discovery produces fast-growing data from assays, sequences and modalities. The aim is to make that data fully ready for modeling and easy to access for ML, and to use applied ML to help scientists rank molecules, flag risks and form hypotheses earlier, supporting ISD's models rather than copying them.

The position is based in Spring House, PA (strongly preferred), Titusville, NJ, or Raritan, NJ, USA, or in Madrid, Spain. No remote option.

The role is offered in several countries under different requisition numbers. Apply to the one matching your location: USA R-095854, Spain R-096793.

Responsibilities

  • Apply current data science tools to explore, combine and characterize varied biologics discovery data, including antibody and protein sequences, constructs, assays and biophysical measurements.
  • Work with discovery scientists to turn research questions and design-make-test-learn (DMTL) decisions into clear data and analysis requirements.
  • Find data quality problems, bias, gaps and risks such as leakage or distribution shift that could affect modeling or interpretation.
  • Help teams use data to prioritize molecules, identify risks and generate hypotheses.
  • Design featurization and build model-ready datasets from biologics discovery data.
  • With data engineers, define the features, labels and aggregation levels models need, keeping raw representations where they carry important information.
  • Curate, document and version datasets so that modeling is reproducible and traceable.
  • Hand standardized, traceable training datasets to ISD and agree on which modeling tasks belong to Data Science and which to ISD.
  • Frame ML problems around real decisions in the DMTL cycle with discovery scientists.
  • Work with ontology and MLOps colleagues so datasets share consistent meaning and models move reliably into use.
  • Promote reproducibility, documentation and responsible AI practices.

Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of applied ML experience, including model development, evaluation and dataset curation on complex scientific or biomedical data.
  • Strong Python skills with the modern ML stack, such as PyTorch and scikit-learn, plus SQL.
  • Experience turning complex, heterogeneous experimental data into reliable features and training sets, with exposure to cloud training and data infrastructure.
  • Solid grasp of model evaluation and validation, and of leakage and distribution shift risks.
  • Ability to work effectively with experimental scientists and modeling partners in a matrixed R&D setting.
  • Preferred: experience with biologics, antibody or protein sequence models, or protein language models.
  • Preferred: experience with active learning, Bayesian optimization or sequence-based generative models for molecular design.
  • Preferred: familiarity with biophysical and assay data and developability endpoints.
  • Preferred: experience with MLOps, experiment tracking and model monitoring.
  • Preferred: familiarity with how ontologies or knowledge graphs support data reuse and AI-ready datasets.

Conditions

Based on site in Spring House, PA (strongly preferred), Titusville, NJ, Raritan, NJ, USA, or Madrid, Spain. No remote work.

Accommodations for the interview process are available on request through the company's careers contact page.

The base pay range is $109,000 to $174,800 for US hires. Candidates hired outside the US receive pay and benefits based on their local market.

The company offers equal opportunity and respects individual dignity; the posting adds a short statement on accommodation requests.

Benefits

  • Eligible for an annual performance bonus, a cash award paid at the company's discretion under the plan terms, based on individual and company results.
  • Eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, short- and long-term disability, business accident and group legal insurance.
  • Eligible for the company's pension plan and a 401(k) savings plan.
  • Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year.
  • Sick time up to 40 hours per calendar year.
  • Holiday pay, including floating holidays, up to 13 days per calendar year.
  • Work, personal and family time up to 40 hours per calendar year.
  • Further benefit details are available on the company's careers site.
