Description

This group sits within the Information Research Division and supports laboratory and research teams by managing and integrating high-quality research data and building informatics platforms and decision-support tools.

You will own and grow the bioassay knowledge graph, turn lab workflows into data solutions, and build visualizations and AI-enabled tools that speed up drug discovery.

You act as the link between bench scientists and technology teams.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements by talking with discovery scientists about their current workflows and data flows.
  • Propose solutions that fit each client's needs and build them independently.
  • Design and implement technology that integrates, visualizes and analyzes complex data from several platforms, including pipelines that load data into systems and warehouses.
  • Harmonize knowledge graph data using your wet lab biology or biochemistry background, and write knowledge statements.
  • Bring together internal and external datasets, apply ontologies, and make sure data is captured correctly.
  • Resolve performance problems and work with downstream systems that depend on bioassay data.
  • Apply automation, AI and advanced analytics to improve scientific workflows.
  • Work on several projects at once, some very different, and contribute across a broad range of drug discovery and development work.
  • Build strong skills in tools for data storage, transfer, integration, visualization and advanced analytics.

Requirements

  • Required: a Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of experience, a Master's Degree with 5 years of experience, or a PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Required: a background in life sciences, biology or an equivalent field.
  • Required: working knowledge of how drugs are discovered and developed.
  • Required: understanding of biological ontologies.
  • Required: experience with bioassay data.
  • Required: understanding of knowledge graphs and the ability to enhance existing biology data.
  • Required: a team player who works with IT staff such as DBAs, architects and developers, and with external customers such as discovery and therapeutic area scientists.
  • Required: solid familiarity with visualization and pipelining tools such as Spotfire or equivalent.
  • Required: demonstrated visualization skill with flexible plotting libraries such as D3, ggplot2 or plotly, and/or visualization platforms.
  • Required: ability to work independently, juggle multiple tasks and meet timelines.
  • Required: outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal skills for cross-functional work, including documenting and presenting technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Required: a self-motivated learner and thinker with a hands-on approach.
  • Preferred: demonstrated technical proficiency in the pharmaceutical industry, highly preferred.
  • Preferred: previous in vitro biology wet lab experience.
  • Preferred: experience with LIMS, ELN and other scientific software.
  • Desired: strong Python programming proficiency and skill in other modern languages.
