Senior Core Java Developer

You will join the Cash Equities Client & Market Connectivity team in Toronto. The role calls for design thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to build scalable, architecture-led solutions, along with clear communication across a multicultural team spread over several regions.

Responsibilities

• Build an event-driven, high-throughput Order Management Platform that will serve as the backbone of the future Cash Equities architecture.
• Develop strategic FIX platforms for both client-facing and market-facing connections that meet business needs.
• Meet with product owners and business sponsors to discuss requirements and priorities, and keep them informed about progress and expectations.
• Improve test and deployment automation and raise the maturity of continuous delivery.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering on low-latency or real-time systems.
• Strong Core Java skills with microservices, including designing and building low-latency systems with architectures such as zero GC.
• Good working knowledge of the Linux or UNIX command line.
• Proficiency in the FIX protocol and knowledge of Cash Equities order flows, both low touch (DMA, DSA) and high touch (managed, PT).
• Working knowledge of DevOps tooling, including Groovy, Jenkins CI/CD, logging and monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work with a multicultural, geographically spread global organization.
• Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
• Ability to work effectively with business and IT stakeholders.
• Preferred, not required: experience with container runtimes (Podman, Docker) and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Preferred, not required: familiarity with message passing systems such as Kafka and Aeron.
• Preferred, not required: experience with data-driven optimization, including profiling and metrics collection.
• Preferred, not required: problem-solving skills that produce feasible alternatives and optimal designs.

Conditions

The base salary varies by geography and other factors.

For roles filled in Toronto, ON, the base salary is CAD $100k to CAD $110k per year, plus benefits.
