Senior Associate, Unified Communications (UC) Engineer

Description

The unified communications engineer delivers projects such as new Microsoft Teams Phone rollouts, moves from Cisco IPT or PBX systems, building new Teams service components as needs arise, advising on the architecture of the Teams Phone service, working with cloud PSTN vendors, and keeping to service roadmaps and standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan and troubleshoot voice solutions in Microsoft Teams.
• Set up and manage core Teams communication features, including calling plans, phone systems, Direct Routing and voice routing policies, with an eye on call quality.
• Configure emergency calling, network settings and call routing, and understand the voice apps and services inside Microsoft 365.
• Roll out Microsoft Teams Phone across the enterprise on Windows, iOS, Teams devices and desk phones.
• Connect Teams with existing PBX and Cisco systems, keeping functionality and call quality intact and resolving faults.
• Keep building your knowledge of Teams voice features and unified communications systems.
• Work to engineering methods, industry standards and best practice.
• Write clear, concise documentation pitched at the intended audience.
• Follow the company, C-TIES and ITIL guidance for UC engineering.
• Make sure all work is completed and logged according to set standards, methods and procedures.
• Investigate root causes, troubleshoot issues and propose service improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• 3+ years of UC engineering experience with on-premises and/or cloud systems.
• Work well both within a multi-disciplinary team and on your own.
• Have worked with third-party vendors such as PSTN carriers, cloud providers, Microsoft and Cisco.
• Show a structured, analytical approach to solving problems.
• Communicate well in speech and writing, explaining complex technical topics to technical and non-technical people alike.
• Turn business needs into feature engineering solutions.
• Drive yourself to keep improving, automating and optimizing processes.
• Strong management, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Adapt to changing priorities, uncertainty and fast-moving environments.
• Preferred: Basic knowledge of Cisco Call Manager, Microsoft Teams, telephony, VoIP, the PSTN, the internet and cloud computing.
• Preferred: Hands-on work with appliances such as AudioCodes SBCs and Cisco Voice Gateways.
• Preferred: Experience supporting Windows platforms and Azure cloud environments.
• Preferred: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Power Apps for handling complex project data, such as Excel pivot tables and data imports and exports.
• Preferred: Basic understanding of MySQL and MSSQL databases.
• Preferred: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of operating systems and related platforms, such as Microsoft Windows.
• Preferred: Foundational grasp of networking, including LAN, WLAN, WAN, DMZ, VPN, Quality of Service, Call Admission Control and routing.
• Preferred: Familiarity with troubleshooting tools for networks and systems, such as remote access tools, Windows support tools and connectivity tests.
• Preferred: Experience supporting applications, platforms and services in clustered, federated, shared or virtual environments.
• Preferred: General understanding of IT security as it applies to production environments.
