Senior Application Engineer

The role is a senior engineering position building financial products that change how businesses manage their money.

The company has served businesses in Europe since 2004 and is now used by more than 250,000 companies to take payments, manage funds and grow.

The company has 950+ people across 14+ locations and works in small teams where people own their work and make their own decisions.

The company is expanding into new markets, handling more transactions, and has recent launches: flexible business financing and an in-person payments offering with a terminal and mobile app.

The Milan hub opened in 2023 and is growing quickly, with several agile engineering teams building next-generation payment products.

You will join a cross-functional team covering data, machine learning, platform and product.

Responsibilities

• Help design and build systems that can handle high transaction volumes.
• Design, build and maintain APIs, services and systems used across the engineering teams.
• Lead technical work from architecture through to delivery and keep engineering standards high.
• Apply creative and analytical problem solving to complex issues that support the goal of making financial operations simpler.
• Write thorough documentation, share domain knowledge and set up better processes.
• Take ownership of code quality and the engineering practices used across the systems.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience building large-scale applications, preferably in Java or PHP.
• Willingness to work in Java.
• Experience with Go, C or Python is valued.
• Proven experience leading architectural decisions and technical initiatives, and delivering solutions end to end.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex problems and solutions simply to a range of stakeholders.
• Creative problem solving with a product-first approach, and the ability to analyse and resolve complex issues.
• Accountability for your own tasks and a habit of spotting and improving things, whether technical or related to the business.
• A mindset that values steady delivery of customer value, where speed and quality go together.

Conditions

The role is based at the Milan hub.

Relocation support is not offered to candidates outside Europe.
