Description

The firm is a diversified trading company with more than 30 years in business. It combines advanced technology with strong people to trade in global markets.

It trades with its own capital and takes on its own risk, and it moves quickly to act on opportunities.

Based in Chicago with offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, it trades fixed income, ETFs, equities, FX, commodities and energy across major markets worldwide.

It also runs three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

This role sits between trading, risk and technology. You will work directly with portfolio managers, traders and quantitative researchers across several desks and asset classes.

The work is fast-paced and collaborative. It calls for deep product and market knowledge, solid technical skill and sound judgement under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main contact for portfolio managers, traders and quant researchers on risk and valuation issues across rates, FX, commodities, equities and crypto.
  • Spot problems in the internal risk and valuation systems before they are raised, then trace each one through applications, APIs, databases, messaging and the back-end services they rely on.
  • Watch system and trading activity and rank incidents by their likely effect on trading, portfolio management and P&L.
  • When you cannot fix an issue yourself, find the right engineering, quant or infrastructure team and hand it over with a clear, reproducible diagnosis so it is resolved faster.
  • Work with engineering and product management to find recurring problems and push for lasting technical fixes.
  • Write Python tools and scripts that automate diagnostics, analyse data and streamline workflows.
  • Learn the firm's trading and risk infrastructure, including how systems depend on the services beneath them.

Requirements

  • Solid knowledge of financial products, including cash instruments, futures, swaps and options, and of how markets work, plus strong technical ability.
  • Past work in trade support, trading technology, production support or a close role in a live trading environment, covering several desks or asset classes.
  • Ability to use Python and SQL to investigate issues, automate checks, and query and reconcile data across systems.
  • Experience with production monitoring tools such as log aggregation, dashboards and alerting.
  • Careful analytical thinking, able to narrow an issue down step by step to its source.
  • Clear communication with varied audiences, from portfolio managers and traders to researchers, engineers and product managers.
  • Commercial awareness and comfort working where trading meets technology.
  • Able to take a vague report, such as risk figures that seem off, and work it through alone: understand the front office goal, check the relevant systems and services, locate the failure, then fix it or route it with a clear diagnosis.
  • Success is measured by solving problems and building relationships with the people running trading strategies, not by ticket volume.

Conditions

Annual base salary of $175,000 to $250,000, set by experience, qualifications and relevant skill set.

Benefits

  • Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
  • Group medical, pharmacy, dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with a discretionary employer match.
  • Short- and long-term disability cover, plus life and AD&D insurance.
  • Health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
