This research engineer role sits in the company's R&D group, where you will help build and lead work on advanced electrical power and energy systems and their components for many kinds of applications.
You will work with several of the company's businesses and with several US government customers and partners.
You are also encouraged to pursue new or disruptive ideas that no company business has adopted yet.
Responsibilities
Help create new technologies and capabilities across power generation, transmission, distribution and end-user products by turning system needs into new and existing product designs.
Write algorithms that pool distributed energy resources so they can serve the grid as a microgrid or virtual power plant.
Build methods to measure how distributed energy resources affect the grid, and design ways to reduce the problems they cause.
Adapt modern distribution automation and management systems so they operate with distributed energy resources.
Turn electrical system requirements into projects on power electronics, electrical machines, propulsion, energy storage and similar areas.
Join cross-disciplinary teams as the power system analysis expert, covering real-time modeling, simulation, network modeling, system analysis, protection, transient stability, grid codes, smart grid concepts, economic dispatch, and HVDC or FACTS.
Carry out analytical work to define, meet or exceed customer entitlements.
Help identify technology, product and service opportunities.
Report results in written documents and presentations that explain the analyses, the solutions and the value delivered.
Keep the organization current on the latest technology developments and trends, including competing and disruptive technologies.
Contribute to proposals for company businesses and government agencies.
