Description

You will be a Protein ML Senior Principal Data Scientist in the Vaccines R&D Data and Computational Sciences team, building machine learning models that predict protein properties to speed up next-generation vaccine development.

Your models will focus on immunogenicity, stability and manufacturability, and you will draw on protein language models and foundation AI.

You will work between computational and laboratory science, partnering closely with antigen design and bench lab teams to refine predictors and turn model results into vaccine candidates.

The work sits at the front of AI-driven research, smart manufacturing and mRNA platforms.

The company is an R&D-driven, AI-powered biopharmaceutical business with a deep focus on the immune system and a broad pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Build protein property prediction models for immunogenicity, stability and manufacturability to guide vaccine design.
  • Apply and improve language-based protein representations to find and optimize vaccine candidates faster.
  • Study how protein sequences, structures and functional data relate, so you can build representations that transfer across vaccine programs.
  • Work with structural biology, protein design and bench lab teams to set the modeling strategy and steadily raise model quality.
  • Keep the modeling code clean and in line with good coding practice, so results are robust, reproducible and documented.
  • Coach colleagues on new protein modeling tools and methods, encouraging ongoing learning and rigorous science.
  • Explain findings clearly to internal and external audiences, adjusting the level of detail for each group.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in computational biology, data science, applied mathematics, biophysics or a closely related field.
  • Have 2+ years of experience in industry or academic settings.
  • Have fluent English.
  • Preferred: Exceptional track record in computational biology, including protein language models, biophysics and AI-based predictive models; prior work on immunogenicity predictors is a plus.
  • Preferred: Advanced proficiency in Python, R and SQL, with hands-on experience in PyTorch and AI-based structural modeling tools such as AlphaFold, OpenFold and Boltz.
  • Preferred: Deep knowledge of protein representation models such as ESM.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with molecular dynamics, next-generation sequencing analysis and deep mutational scanning is an advantage.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with agentic tools such as Claude Code for automated software engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to communicate fluently, in writing and in person, across computational and bench lab teams, including senior leadership.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to mentor junior colleagues and lead collaboratively in protein modeling.
  • Preferred: Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Conditions

The role is onsite.

Salary range: $148,500.00 - $214,500.00.

Pay will be set according to demonstrated experience.

Open to US and Puerto Rico residents only.

Open to North America applicants only.

Benefits

  • A rewards package that recognizes your contribution and increases your impact.
  • Health and wellbeing benefits, including high-quality healthcare, prevention and wellness programs.
  • At least 14 weeks of gender-neutral parental leave.
  • Mentoring, international mobility programs and career moves, through promotion or lateral roles, at home or abroad across four continents.
  • May be eligible for company employee benefit programs.
