Principal Systems/Software Engineer

Description

The role is onsite, so you are expected to work mainly from a company office.

The company is a global edge-to-cloud business that helps other organisations connect, protect, analyse and act on their data and applications, from the edge to the cloud.

You will design, build, troubleshoot and debug software for upgrades and new products, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and internet-facing tools. You may also assess hardware compatibility or shape hardware design.

Your work will have a visible technical effect on a product or a major subcomponent, such as shorter time to market, lower costs or meeting customer needs that are not yet served. You will be a recognised internal authority on a key technology area and will lead technical work on significant projects. You will join or lead cross-functional initiatives and help others learn through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Define architectures and methods for software design and development that span several platforms and organisations within the global business unit.
• Assess new technologies, innovations and outsourced development partners for fit with the technology roadmap and business value, and plan how to bring them into the architecture.
• Review designs and project work against development guidelines and standards, and give concrete feedback that improves quality and reduces the risk of failure.
• Use your domain expertise, business judgement and experience to shape decisions made by senior business leaders, outsourced partners and industry standards bodies.
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, setting an example of strong design and innovative software engineering.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of experience in storage and distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with datapath work.
• Experience designing and building software design tools and languages.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
• Experience designing and integrating software that runs on several platform types into an overall architecture.
• Experience choosing methods and processes for software testing, including writing and running test plans, debugging, and building test scripts and tools.
• A track record of innovation, with several patents or deployed solutions in software design.
• Excellent written and spoken communication. You must be fluent in English and the local language.
• You can explain product architectures and design proposals, and negotiate options with business unit and executive audiences.

Conditions

Job level: TCP05. Function: Engineering. Location: United States.

Annual base salary: USD 152,000 to USD 349,000 in North Carolina. Final pay may differ based on location, experience, education, training or skill level. Variable incentives may also be offered on top of base salary.
