The company's Space Sector is hiring a Principal or Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Level 3 or 4) for the Western Region Software Engineering Directorate. The job is onsite in Azusa, CA.

The Western Region software organization has more than 800 engineers, including software, DevOps, database and network engineers, at every level from early career to senior chief engineers and architects. It supports many programs and encourages cross-program collaboration, ongoing professional development and a close team culture.

Relocation assistance may be available. Travel is 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, integrate and test software for embedded, real-time and ground systems.
• Understand system requirements and how they shape the design, then implement and debug software until it meets the defined completion criteria.
• Analyze system behavior to troubleshoot problems involving program intent, output, data acquisition, programming methods and control strategies.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams, including Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Hardware and Integration & Test, in an Agile environment.
• Work in a fast-moving program. Existing specialists can help with primary tasks, but you are expected to set your own priorities and make recommendations to Technical Leads as needed to complete assigned work.
• The requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications below.

Requirements

• Level 3 (Principal Software Engineer): a bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of software or relevant engineering experience, a master's degree in a STEM field with 3+ years of stated experience, or a Ph.D. in a STEM field with 1+ years of stated experience.
• Level 4 (Sr. Principal Flight Software Engineer): a bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of software or relevant engineering experience, a master's degree in a STEM field with 6+ years of stated experience, or a Ph.D. in a STEM field with 4+ years of stated experience.
• Both levels: an active SCI at the time of application, or an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) at application and before the start date, plus the ability and willingness to obtain and keep an active SCI before the start date. Continued employment depends on maintaining the clearance and program access the role requires.
• Both levels: strong C/C++ skills, with emphasis on object-oriented and thread-safe programming.
• Both levels: strong experience integrating and troubleshooting software in a lab.
• Both levels: proficiency in Python.
• Both levels: prior work in an RTOS environment such as VxWorks, FreeRTOS, RT-Linux or GH Integrity.
• Both levels: experience with Agile development using the Atlassian suite (Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence) and Git version control.
• Preferred for Level 4: experience with Docker containerized development, Shell scripting, the CCSDS Space Packet Protocol, CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins, or developing or interfacing with Optical, RF or IR payloads.

Conditions

Onsite in Azusa, CA.

Travel: 10% of the time.

Security: an active SCI or an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) is required at application, and the ability to obtain an active SCI before the start date is required.

• Base salary range of $114,000.00 to $171,000.00. Final pay depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
• Possible overtime, shift differential and discretionary bonus, plus annual bonuses tied to individual and company results. Vice President and Director roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
