Description

The company is a Fortune 500 global infrastructure firm with revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025 and over 50,000 people. It works with electric utilities, transmission owners, distribution companies, ISOs/RTOs, renewable developers, government agencies and large energy users across North America.

This role applies analytics, data science, AI, machine learning and power system expertise to transmission and distribution planning, grid operations, asset management, reliability and grid modernization.

You will build data-driven solutions for load growth, data center integration, DERs, renewable expansion, electrification, energy storage, resilience and infrastructure investment.

You will act as a technical leader and adviser, guiding the use of analytical methods, predictive models, optimization and digital tools, and helping grow the company's power systems analytics and data science capabilities. You will explain findings to utility leaders, regulators, engineers, planners and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced analytics, machine learning and AI work on transmission and distribution planning problems.
  • Mine large utility datasets, including load, outage, SCADA, AMI, DER, market, asset and operational data, for trends, risks and planning opportunities.
  • Build forecasts for load growth, electrification, DERs, electric vehicles, data centers and other new grid impacts.
  • Work with planners and engineers to strengthen studies of reliability, resilience, asset health, capacity and risk using data-driven methods.
  • Assess growth scenarios, infrastructure needs and system effects in large-load and data center integration studies.
  • Design predictive models, optimization frameworks and scenario analyses for long-term transmission and distribution investment.
  • Develop methods to measure the impact of renewables, energy storage, grid modernization and shifting customer demand.
  • Create dashboards, visualizations and decision-support tools that turn technical analysis into clear business insight for clients.
  • Evaluate new technologies, analytics platforms and digital solutions for utility planning, operations and asset management.
  • Mentor engineers and analysts and help build the grid modernization practice.
  • Support business development, proposals, thought leadership and client engagement on grid analytics, digital transformation and power system planning.
  • Apply industry best practices and standards when bringing advanced analytics into planning, reliability and modernization programs.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, data science, applied mathematics or a related field, plus 6 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Have 6 years of proven experience in power systems, utility analytics, data science, transmission planning, distribution planning and grid operations.
  • Have proven experience using advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning or AI on complex utility or energy problems.
  • Know electric utility operations, transmission and distribution systems, planning processes and grid modernization initiatives.
  • Have proven experience with large, complex datasets, such as utility operational, asset, customer, market, reliability or planning data.
  • Be proficient in Python, R, SQL or similar languages for data analysis, machine learning and predictive modeling.
  • Have proven experience building forecasting models, optimization algorithms, scenario analyses and decision-support tools, plus dashboards and visualizations in Power BI, Tableau or similar platforms.
  • Preferred: a master's degree in electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, data science, applied mathematics or a related field.
  • Preferred: experience supporting electric utilities, ISOs/RTOs, transmission owners, regulatory agencies or large energy users.
  • Preferred: knowledge of power system analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, CYME, Synergi, OpenDSS or similar.
  • Preferred: experience with cloud analytics environments, big data platforms, data engineering pipelines or enterprise data architectures.
  • Preferred: expertise in load forecasting, large load and data center planning, DER hosting capacity analysis, grid resilience or transmission and distribution planning analytics.
  • Preferred: familiarity with NERC reliability standards, regional planning requirements, utility regulatory processes and industry best practices.
  • Preferred: published research, industry presentations, patents or demonstrated thought leadership in power systems analytics, AI or grid modernization.
  • Preferred: a Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certifications in analytics, data science, cloud technologies or power systems.
